📌 What you’ll learn in this article
A Sarukuma writer visits “Ushidori” in Waifu, Kikuchi City, and shares a firsthand report. Price range: from 280 yen. We also cover family-friendly tips, access, and opening hours.

Introducing Ushidori

Hello there!
I’m Nanako, the Sarukuma writer known for my love of all things meat.

Today I’m excited to introduce you to
“Ushidori”,
located in Waifu, Kikuchi City, Kumamoto Prefecture.

As the name suggests,
this is a takeout-only specialty shop serving “Ushi” (roast beef) and “Tori” (karaage / Japanese fried chicken).

Please note that there is no parking lot,
so you’ll need to park along the road beside the shop.

I highly recommend calling ahead to place an order before picking up.

You’ll find Ushidori right across from the Kikuchi City Hall.

It’s about a 5-minute drive from the “Kikuchi Furusato Sosei Civic Plaza”, which we featured here at Sarukuma recently.

On this day, my son and I had spent the morning playing at the plaza, then dropped by Ushidori on the way home.
We were exhausted and craving something delicious…

A stylish menu board greets you right at the entrance.

So many mouth-watering options to choose from!

Although Ushidori is a takeout-only shop,
there are seats available for customers waiting for their orders.

The tables and chairs have a stylish, modern feel.

Even the wall decor is on point.

It honestly felt as cozy as a charming little cafe.

The blackboard inside the shop reveals what makes Ushidori special!
The beef they use is none other than “Akaushi” (Japanese Brown beef), a renowned Kumamoto specialty!

Wow! That has to be incredible.

For their karaage, they use “Umaka Herb Chicken”, a premium Kyushu-raised chicken.
Reading about their commitment to quality, the chicken sounds just as delicious…

It’s tough to choose between “Ushi” (beef) and “Tori” (chicken)!

Ushidori’s Recommended Menu

Here’s the karaage à la carte menu.

You can order starting from 100g for 280 yen.

The price per gram gets a little better as you order more.
And here’s the best part — for a small extra fee, you can switch your karaage to chicken nanban or yurinchi (Chinese-style fried chicken with vinegar sauce)!

And here’s the bento (lunch box) menu.

From karaage bento to roast beef rice bowls…!

Akaushi beef tendon curry just has to be amazing…

Choosing what to order is seriously a challenge.

Beyond bento and à la carte karaage, you can also order party platters (hors d’oeuvres) here.

Just look at this mini party platter!
Five varieties of karaage in a single platter — a dream come true.

It would be a hit at any kids’ gathering.

There are also platters featuring roast beef
and snack-focused platters — you can customize your order to suit your preferences and budget.

Party platters can sometimes be picked up on weekends and holidays as well,
making them perfect for parties and family get-togethers.

So, what did I order at Ushidori? Let’s find out…

Ta-da!!!

The “Ushidori Zanmai” combo for 1,300 yen!

Since I couldn’t decide between Ushi or Tori, I went for the combo that has both.

The karaage is wonderfully juicy with deep, rich chicken flavor.
And it’s not just one flavor — you can enjoy multiple varieties like classic, mayonnaise, and nanban.

And then there’s the roast beef.
…As expected, it’s absolutely incredible. The meat is naturally sweet, and pairs perfectly with the soft-boiled onsen egg.

It made me feel pure happiness.

I really hope you’ll head to Kikuchi to try this delicious “Ushi” and “Tori” for yourself! ♪
