A Sarukuma writer visits “Tofu Kobo Kimura” in Ishihara, Higashi-ku, Kumamoto City. Price range: from 230 yen. We also cover family-friendly tips, access, and business hours.

Hello there!
This is Binako, a Sarukuma writer who’s currently struggling to get her little one to sleep at night ★

Today, I’m excited to introduce you to a wonderful spot located in Nishihara, Higashi-ku, Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture:
“Tofu Kobo Kimura”.

The traditional noren curtain hanging at the entrance gives the shop such a charming, authentic Japanese atmosphere!

Inside, you’ll find an impressive variety of soybean-based sweets, soy meat products, and katsuobushi (dried bonito flakes) beautifully arranged on the shelves ^^

Here is the corner stocked with miso, oboro tofu (silken-style fresh tofu), and soy milk
They even have something called “first-press soy milk” which had me really curious… haha

Honestly, everything looks so delicious — it’s truly a soybean treasure trove! lol

The frozen section offers everything from sweet treats like kuri manju (chestnut buns) to savory items like croquettes.
It’s perfect whether you’re shopping for dinner or grabbing a snack ( *´艸`)

The display case is filled with prepared deli dishes, including tofu-centric options like mapo tofu and agedashi tofu (lightly fried tofu in savory broth)!

Wait, you can get literally everything here…

Right next to the deli section, you’ll find an array of tofu-based sweets ♪
I want to buy them all, all of them, every single one…

Right by the register, I spotted some tofu donuts ^^
They’re bite-sized, making them perfect for kids to enjoy too ♪

And yes, that’s the soy milk soft serve ice cream and float that are guaranteed to be delicious.

You can just tell by looking.
This is going to be amazing.

There’s also an eat-in corner inside the shop, though it’s currently affected by the new normal ^^

I was so happy to see they accept PayPay (Japan’s popular mobile payment app).
I absolutely love using PayPay!

Recommended Menu

This time, I picked up Soy Milk Pudding (230 yen) and
Okara (Soy Pulp) Cream Puff (160 yen)
!

First, let me try the soy milk pudding…

Ohhhhhhhhhhh my goodness!!!

The bounce when you sink your spoon in is incredible!
The surface is firm, but the inside is wonderfully creamy and silky —
it just melts in your mouth!!!

The caramel at the bottom is perfectly balanced — neither too sweet nor too bitter.
It’s so good that I ended up sipping every last drop of caramel until it was gone!

Next up, the okara cream puff…

Wait, this is a revolution!?

You can clearly taste the soybean flavor without it being overpowering,
and the sweetness is just right. I’ve never had a cream puff that lets you savor soybeans like this before!

No, seriously, it’s just incredibly delicious.

This is definitely the kind of treat that would make anyone happy as a gift.

They also sell ready-made bento boxes at the storefront!

Tofu Hamburger Bento and

Tofu Menchi Katsu (Minced Cutlet) Bento!
There were quite a lot of customers stopping by just to pick up bento boxes!

Tofu Kobo Kimura — everything was just too delicious for words.

I’m absolutely going back!
I HAVE to try that soy milk soft serve next time!!!
