Hello, fellow travelers!
This is Gussan, a writer for Sarukuma☆

Today I’m introducing
Umihotaru, located in Aitsu, Matsushima-machi, Kamiamakusa City —
a true Kumamoto hidden gem!

This private onsen is the bath annex of “Hotel Ryugu”
at Amakusa Matsushima Onsen!
It sits on National Route 266 — better known as the Amakusa Pearl Line —
right at the foot of the No. 4 Bridge,
so it’s super easy to spot (^^)
Here’s the entrance to the private baths.
Just when I thought “what a stylish space”…
whaaaat?!
It’s a Footbath BAR!
A rare spot where you can soak your feet in warm water while sipping a drink.
Feels like the buzz would hit fast, lol
This is the reception desk.
Umihotaru offers 5 types of private open-air baths.
There’s a stone sauna (ganbanyoku) too!
Here are the rates.
Private baths fit up to 4 people:
60 minutes — ¥2,000
90 minutes — ¥3,000
Additional person — ¥500 each
Private stone sauna add-on — ¥500 per person

This is the entrance to “Go-no-yu” (Bath No. 5).
It’s the largest bath and includes a stone sauna ♫
What a wonderful atmosphere!
The water is a sodium chloride spring — also nicknamed the “Beauty Bath” — so expectations are high \(^o^)/
The bathing floor is covered with tatami mats,
so it’s slip-resistant — meaning elderly guests
and small children can soak safely. A truly thoughtful private bath!

Shampoo and body soap are provided ♫
Outside, you can gaze at the No. 4 Bridge
while feeling Amakusa’s salty sea breeze on your skin ♫
Hair dryers are also available.

Why You’ll Love It

And now, a peek at the stone sauna…
Ta-dah ☆

Instructions for getting the most out of your stone sauna session are posted — definitely worth a read.
There’s even an hourglass to time your session — sweat it out and feel completely refreshed!

If you’re traveling through Amakusa, why not stop by? (*^^*)
