📌 What You’ll Learn in This Article
A Sarukuma writer visits Todoroki Suigen in Miyasho-cho, Uto City, and shares the experience firsthand — including kid-friendly tips, access, and operating hours.

Hello, travelers!
This is Gussan, your Sarukuma writer ☆

Today I’m taking you to
Miyasho-cho, Uto City to visit
Todoroki Suigen (轟水源) — a stunning natural spring!

Your GPS will guide you here without trouble, but
be careful — the road narrows in spots
along the way, so drive slowly ☆
There are several parking areas,
so let me walk you through them.
First up, my top recommendation — the Suigen-mae Hiroba (Spring Plaza)
If you’re coming from central Uto City,
this is the very first parking lot you’ll see.
It’s a spacious, easy-to-park lot,
and it has restrooms.
Since Todoroki Suigen has no changing rooms,
this covered rest area is super handy for changing into swimwear!
There’s also a grassy park on the same grounds,
perfect for spotting grasshoppers (can you see it?),
riding the see-saw,
swinging on swings,
and tackling the small obstacle course ♫
My son tried to laugh off his nerves before crossing the wobbly bridge
(he’s currently obsessed with Demon Slayer)…
And right ahead — that’s Todoroki Suigen!
The spring isn’t huge, so I’d recommend changing
either inside your car or under the covered area at Suigen-mae Hiroba!
Those cars peeking through on the right…
…that’s another parking lot.
It’s the closest one to the spring, but it’s narrow and tricky to maneuver,
so if you’re not super confident driving,
stick with the Suigen-mae Hiroba!
About 150 meters past Todoroki Suigen,
you’ll find vending machines,

plus more parking and restrooms for the Gosen Shizen Koen Hana-Shobu-en (Iris Garden of Gosen Natural Park)!

Why You’ll Love It

Todoroki Suigen is an officially designated member of Japan’s Top 100 Famous Waters (Meisui Hyakusen),
a natural spring-fed pool where
the water is unbelievably crystal clear \(^o^)/
When we visited, the spring was buzzing with families
seeking nature’s air-conditioning (^o^)
There isn’t much shade or seating around,
so bring a hat or parasol to stay comfortable ☆
The spring water is genuinely cold,
but bold kids in swimsuits were still swimming,
and a few even cannonballed straight in —
what brave little adventurers!
Some sections reach knee-deep on adults,
but there are also super shallow ankle-deep spots,
so even small children can splash safely!
Just looking at the spring is refreshing,
but dipping in your feet drops your body temperature instantly —
on a hot Kumamoto summer day, you’ll want to jump in!
Whoa whoa whoa!!!

While I was distracted by my eldest,
poor Popo-chan (my daughter’s doll) became the latest victim…
feet pinned down with no escape!
My daughter explained that the sand was “shampoo”
and she was “washing” Popo-chan’s hair…
upside down, no less!!!!

And eventually, Popo-chan was laid out to sun-dry…
she actually looked pretty content!
