Hello there!
This is Gussan, a writer for Sarukuma!
“It’s sooooo hot!”
These days, even just hanging out the laundry in the morning leaves me drenched in sweat. ^^;
I really wanted to escape to somewhere cool today!
So I brought Grandpa and Grandma along for the trip!
Our destination: Shiraito Falls Park, located in Kawahara, Nishihara Village, Aso District, Kumamoto Prefecture
【Shiraito Falls Park (白糸の滝公園)】 ♫

There are two parking areas available.
Visitors with disabilities, expectant mothers, and elderly seniors
can park in the lot closest to the falls.
As a cleaning cooperation fee:
High school students and older: 200 yen per person
Middle school students and younger: 100 yen per person
My 3-year-old daughter was free of charge.
With a 20-meter drop, Shiraito Falls is
officially recognized as one of Kumamoto Prefecture’s “Heisei 100 Famous Waters”!
It’s also known by another name — “Yorihime Falls” —
and carries with it a poignant legend of tragic love.
There it is!
The famous Shiraito Falls!
Even from a distance, the sheer power is incredible,
and you can feel the cool, refreshing air drifting your way.
Whoaaaaaaa!!!!
A Spectacular Cascade!!!!!
Negative ions everywhere! \(^o^)/
No wonder it’s considered a power spot!
My fearless 3-year-old daughter, of course,
immediately wanted to touch the water,
leaving Grandpa and Grandma flustered…
It’s not just the falls — the surrounding nature
shows different faces with each of Japan’s four seasons.
Even my world-weary heart!?
feels healed by the pure water and lush greenery.
Deep breath in, deep breath out…
Breathe in deeply~
Then gaze far, far, as far into the distance as I can~
Fresh air feels great for the body.
Beautiful scenery feels great for the eyes.
Wait a minute,
all I’m thinking about is my health!!

There’s even a rest area!
Highlights to Check Out
Many parts of the river are deep,
and the current can be quite swift, so it’s not really suitable for
young children to play in the water — but there are
a few spots where they can splash around safely!
My daughter caught crabs…
and climbed onto rocks shouting “It’s so cooold!” —
truly experiencing nature firsthand. ☆
Look at how crystal-clear this water is!!
It’s so soothing you could just stand and stare at it forever.
Maybe I’m a little tired…
The restroom next to the parking area
even has a diaper changing station!
“You had two kids, right?” — on our way back,
the friendly parking attendant gave us juice!
That nostalgic mikan (mandarin orange) juice was so good!
A totally unexpected and heartwarming gift. (*^^*)
