Hello there! It’s Gussan, your friendly travel writer from “Sarukuma”!
Today I’m excited to introduce you to the Kumamoto Prefectural Sports Park Kids’ Plaza, located in Ishihara, Higashi Ward, Kumamoto City.
Not only does this park have wonderful playground equipment, but it’s also a paradise for kids who love exploring nature — which is why it’s one of our family’s favorite spots! The expansive grass field is perfect for tossing a ball around or playing badminton — you’ll see plenty of families enjoying the open space!
It almost feels like stepping into the world of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs!
There are plenty of benches scattered around for taking a break!
There’s normally a water-play area too, but unfortunately it’s closed this year… What a shame! And here we are at the Kids’ Plaza!

Why You’ll Love This Park

Climb up the hill and you’ll find two fun slides waiting for you!
Kids also love rolling down the grassy slopes — it’s pure joy! ♪
The swings are always packed with happy kids — they’re a real crowd favorite!

There’s a low-rise jungle gym that’s perfect for little climbers,
a small seesaw,
and lots of equipment designed for toddlers around 1 to 3 years old!
Even Kumamon, Kumamoto’s beloved black bear mascot, is smiling here! ♪♪
The pyramid-shaped play structure is another big hit — kids love climbing up and peeking out from the windows.
To reach the slide hill, you can go up via the grass, the stairs, or even cross a fun rope bridge!
Curious kids will have a blast hunting for insects and gathering tree nuts in the surrounding woods.
The rocky area is also a huge favorite among the kids!
The restrooms inside the park are Japanese-style only, but if you head to the nearby reception area, you’ll find accessible restrooms with a diaper-changing station!
There’s also a comfortable rest area with a clear clock and well-stocked vending machines for refreshments!
You’ll find drinking fountains scattered throughout the park as well!
And here’s a bonus tip for visitors: nearby, there’s a beautiful Japanese-style garden where you can feed the koi fish, and you can also rent bicycles for a relaxing cycling tour around the area.
Surrounded by a wide variety of trees — including cherry blossoms in spring and golden ginkgo leaves in autumn — the park is a wonderful place to experience the changing seasons of Japan! ♪
