Introducing mYSA – A Mom’s Rest Space

Hello, this is Aikero, writer for [SaruKuma].

Today I’m introducing mYSA, located in Shimizu-shinchi, Kita-ku, Kumamoto City.
[Mom’s Rest Space mYSA]
This is a place where moms – not kids – take center stage.
It’s a rest space for mothers, born from the honest voices of two moms.
With licensed childcare staff and nurses always on-site, children can play safely and happily while moms relax.

‘I just want to talk to someone.’ ‘I need some time alone.’
You’re not the only one feeling this way.
Why not stop by for a little break, so you can keep smiling as a mom?
[About using mYSA]

– Event Day
– Subscriber-only Lunch Meetups
For the full schedule, please check their Instagram!
The space is tucked just off the Kumamoto Electric Railway Kikuchi Line.
A sign on the fence makes it easy to spot, but using GPS navigation is recommended.
There are 5 on-site parking spaces, plus second and third parking lots nearby.
Backing into the on-site parking spots makes leaving easier.
Just be careful of traffic on the road in front – it can get busy.

The on-site parking entrance feels narrower than it looks in photos, so first-timers or anyone unsure should head to the second or third lots.
mYSA’s Instagram also has parking guidance, so check before you go.
For the second parking lot, take the small road across from mYSA.
Go straight until the dead-end sign, turn left, then take the first left.
After turning, drive straight to the end and you’ll see a gravel parking area – that’s the second lot.
Park in the spot marked by the block.

There wasn’t one at the time of my visit, but a third parking lot has now opened.
With mYSA on your left, drive straight, pass the White Express Hakenomiya 2-chome store, and the large parking lot on your right is the third lot.
I don’t have photos, but it has 5 spaces: numbers 32, 36, 37, 40, and 41.
When you arrive, just press the intercom at the front door.
Inside, you’re greeted by a spacious entryway!
There’s room to set down your things, and a place to sit beside your child to help them with their shoes.
Little thoughtful touches like this come from real parenting experience.
The roomy bathroom even has an adorable child-sized toilet!
Moms come first here, but kids are clearly thought about too.
Baby gates in the hallway keep little ones safe.
There’s even a private nursing room!
Diaper changing is welcome too!
The raised diaper-changing table is gentle on moms’ backs – especially helpful for pregnant moms.
The care for every kind of mom, born from real parenting experience, is genuinely moving.
They even provide baby wipes and odor-blocking diaper bags!
These little touches really show how much they care about moms.
A board in the hallway shows local recommendations.
Even if you’re new to the neighborhood, it makes you want to explore!

Why mYSA Stands Out

This is a quiet room where moms can spend time alone.
Lie down on the floor, curl up against a cushion, scroll your phone – whatever feels right.
Read on the sun-warmed engawa (traditional Japanese veranda), take a quick nap, or simply do nothing at all.
For just a little while, step away from your child and rest without worry.
While mom takes a break, the licensed childcare staff will look after the little ones.

‘This is exactly what I needed!’ – I’m sure many moms will feel that way.
Just knowing there’s a place where you can lean on someone is a real comfort.
Visitors spend most of their time in this large tatami-mat room.
There’s something so calming about traditional tatami flooring.
The engawa offers a peaceful view of the outside.
Lots of toys for the kids!

It’s a mom’s rest space, but kids will have a great time too.
The day I visited was ‘Knitting Lovers’ Day.’
This themed day was actually inspired by the lively conversations among knitting-loving moms who happened to meet here.
They also host days for JSDF (Japan Self-Defense Force) families, childcare-worker moms, and families who’ve recently relocated for work.

mYSA puts a special emphasis on ‘connection.’
When moms with shared hobbies or life situations get together, the conversation flows and they can share their worries openly.

The Story Behind mYSA

I asked the founders what inspired them to create this place!

mYSA
mYSA
‘I just wanted to talk to someone other than my baby or my family’ – we wanted a place where that kind of loneliness could be shared and understood.
Because we’d been through tough times raising our own kids, we created [Mom’s Rest Space] so other moms could just drop by and truly relax.

It’s incredible that you’ve actually made that vision a reality!
It must have been challenging to bring it to life.

It’s been quite a journey!
But when moms find us through Instagram, or when a mom comes in with her own mother and the grandma says ‘I wish a place like this had existed when I was raising my kids,’ we feel so glad we created it.

The struggles and exhaustion of motherhood don’t really change with the generations. Just knowing mYSA exists when you’re feeling ‘I might be at my limit’ can make a world of difference.

If you’re tired and just want to sleep, that’s totally fine. Read a book, scroll your phone, enjoy your alone time.
We’re watching the kids, so please rest with peace of mind.

Beyond just creating the space, you also organize lots of events.

Yes! When I saw moms meeting for the first time showing each other their knitting projects, exchanging tips and smiling together, I thought, why not create a knitting lovers’ day?
We also have a staff member whose husband is in the JSDF. We hope that getting together with people who truly understand each other’s situation creates real connection – and lets them know they’re not alone.
It’s all about reminding moms: you’re not in this by yourself.

Built from their own experiences, mYSA is a rest space that truly understands moms.
One mom I met there said she discovered the place through a friend’s Instagram story.

‘It’s such a wonderful place. I never knew somewhere like this existed.’ she told me happily.
‘I even signed up for the unlimited monthly subscription!’ she added with a smile.
With its energetic staff and the sound of moms laughing and chatting, mYSA radiates warmth.
It’s not a children’s center, it’s not a support center – it’s something uniquely warm and welcoming, all its own.

Come by anytime, whoever you are – mYSA is here as your rest space.
