Introducing Kumakko Farm
Hello travelers! This is Midoπ³, writer for [Sarukuma].
Today we’re heading to Harami in Kikuyo Town to check out
[Kumakko Farm] β a hidden-gem bento (Japanese boxed lunch) shop.
Kumakko Farm sits just a 3-minute drive from the Kikuyo Town Library, Kikuyo Suginamiki Park Sansan, and the Kikuyo Town General Gymnasium. It’s right along the road with a spacious parking lot, making it an easy stop whether you’re sightseeing or commuting.
Look for the bright red banner flags and the “Kumakko Farm” sign π
Here’s the front view!
Plenty of parking space! There are also three vending machines on-site, perfect for grabbing a drink to go with your bento.
The shop itself is the building tucked at the back-left of the lot.

Kumakko Farm Recommended Menu
We picked up the Daily Special Bento (450 yen), the Bomb Onigiri (220 yen), and the Onigiri Bento (200 yen) π±π
First up, the “Daily Special Bento.” Today’s lineup featured teriyaki-style lotus root with ground meat, plus chicken katsu β¨
Started with the lotus root and ground meat teriyaki. The crisp texture of the renkon (lotus root) paired with that sweet-savory teriyaki glaze was absolutely delicious β a perfect pairing with rice βͺ
Next, the chicken katsu β wonderfully crispy and delicious! Tsukemono (Japanese pickles) come on the side, making for a thoroughly satisfying bento β¨
And here’s the famous “Bomb Onigiri” π£
Open the wrapper and surprise β it comes with a small piece of karaage and takuan (yellow pickled radish)! Can you tell from the photo? This onigiri is HUGE!
For scale, I placed an old iPhone SE next to it (still hard to tell, maybe?).
Check out the thickness from the side! It’s seriously hefty when you pick it up, so I had to weigh it.
A typical convenience store onigiri weighs around 110g β this monster is more than 3 TIMES that. Incredible!!!
First, I split it in half β okaka (bonito flakes) and kombu (kelp) inside βͺ
Split it again andβ¦ mentaiko (spicy cod roe) appeared! Three classic Japanese fillings in one massive rice ball. The rice and nori (seaweed) were both fantastic βͺ
Last but not least, the “Onigiri Bento.”
It comes with two onigiri and a few small pieces of karaage on the side. The onigiri fillings change daily.
The one on the right was a shio (salt) onigiri mixed with sesame seeds and salmon flakes.
The one on the left had takana (pickled mustard greens) β a regional Kyushu favorite. Both were delicious β¨
Have you been curious about Kumakko Farm but kept driving past? Don’t be shy β pop in and give it a try βͺ We didn’t even cover the Nori Bento in this article, but it’s only 280 yen! Add this hidden Kikuyo gem to your Kumamoto road-trip itinerary π
