Hello there!
It’s Gussan, a writer for SaruKuma!

Today I’m introducing Mizutama Park in Akitsu-shinmachi, Higashi-ku, Kumamoto City
【Mizutama Park】!
It’s tucked into a quiet residential neighborhood, but a short walk away you’ll find a Lawson convenience store,
which makes it super convenient for grabbing drinks and snacks before heading to the park ♪

Droplets glisten on the leaves.
The name “Mizutama Park” (literally “Water Drop Park”) is so cute, isn’t it?

A grassy slope perfect for running up and down.
Mizutama Park has plenty of benches,
so you’ll often see locals stopping by for a work break or a leisurely stroll.
Here’s a covered bench area with a drinking fountain.
Towering trees create a wonderfully laid-back, peaceful atmosphere.
It’s perfect for shinrin-yoku (forest bathing),
and in spring you can even enjoy cherry blossom viewing (hanami) here ♪

Highlights

There’s a slide for little ones,
a horizontal bar,
swings, and all the classic playground equipment.
There’s even a charmingly retro seesaw with serious nostalgic vibes.
Mizutama Park used to be home to enormous camphor trees so old you’d wonder just how many centuries they’d seen.
Sadly, some have been cut down,
but kids seem to absolutely love playing on the leftover stumps!
Mizutama Park also has a wide open field,
perfect for ball games and even practicing how to ride a bike ♪
