Hikari no Mori Park: A Family-Friendly Stop Right Next to YouMe Town Hikari no Mori in Kumamoto
2020.07.14

A Sarukuma writer pays a real-life visit to Hikari no Mori Park in Kikuyo Town, Kumamoto, sharing family-friendly highlights, access info, and opening details.
Hello, fellow travelers! ♪
This is Gussan, your Sarukuma writer!
Today I’m taking you to a charming little spot tucked away in Hikari no Mori, Kikuyo Town, Kikuchi District —
【Hikari no Mori Park】
locally nicknamed the “Carrot Park”!
Sitting right by the park-side entrance of YouMe Town Hikari no Mori shopping mall,
it’s the kind of place you’ve probably spotted while driving past.
From the YouMe Town side, just cross at the traffic light and walk about 50 meters.
The park entrance is marked by a charming clock tower.
And guess what’s right next door? A koban (Japanese police box) — talk about peace of mind!
Right at the entrance you’ll find a vending machine,
and a water fountain a little further in.
A big, colorful play structure stands proudly in the middle of the lush green lawn!
The accessible restroom even comes with a diaper-changing station — perfect for traveling families!
There’s also a covered rest area — a real lifesaver on Kumamoto’s hot, sunny days! ♪
And yes, even outdoor fitness equipment for the grown-ups!

This one’s a side-stretcher — give it a try!
Why You’ll Love This Park
Meet “Carroppy” — the adorable carrot-shaped mascot inspired by Kikuyo Town’s famous local specialty: carrots! 🥕
This cheerful character truly steals the show!
Here’s a shot taken from the top of “Carroppy”!
The spacious lawn is perfect for badminton, ball games, or just sprawling out on a picnic blanket. ♪
And don’t miss the roller slide — surprisingly smooth and seriously fun! ♪
Here’s my 6-year-old son, fully immersed in his ninja role-play.
For kids, even the space under the play structure becomes prime adventure territory.
(Us grown-ups can’t help thinking, “Eek, spider webs!” — but the kids couldn’t care less!)
There’s also a smaller play area perfect for toddlers!
Those little wobbly steps and curious peeking faces will absolutely melt your heart!
My 3-year-old daughter, a huge fan of pretend play, hummed her way through an imaginary shop game.
There’s no parking lot of its own, but since the park sits right next to YouMe Town Hikari no Mori, plenty of families pop in for a quick play after shopping. ♪
