Ipponmatsu Park: A Quick Tour of the Facilities
Today we’re heading to a hidden gem in Kumamoto~
Yamaga City, Kamoto-machi, Takahashi, Kumamoto Prefecture — home to
“Ipponmatsu Park”!
This park is famous for its one-of-a-kind “Stone Pinwheel” (^-^)/
Parking is available in two locations.
This one is closer to the tennis court (^-^)
It sits on the lower side of the park.
The other parking lot is at the upper part of the park.
If you’re here to play, this is the one we recommend ☆
There’s a “Kamoto-machi Local Products Shop” here
selling handmade goods, drinks, snacks, and more — perfect for picking up a local souvenir.
Restrooms are available in two spots. The one near the lower parking lot looks like this~
There’s also a vending machine right beside it.
Another restroom is tucked behind the local shop.
A sliding door keeps the cold out, and inside is the restroom!
It feels like a cozy little rest area where you can take a breather (^-^)
Vending machines are right next to the shop.
You’ll find drinks inside the shop too.
There’s a covered rest area too — and the view from here is absolutely stunning (^-^)/
Plenty of benches scattered around, so you’ll always have somewhere to sit and relax.
Hand-washing stations are located behind the Stone Pinwheel and at the grass field
though the one at the grass field had no working tap — so the restroom sinks may be your better bet (^-^)
There’s a tennis court too (^-^)
And it looks like camping is allowed too (^-^)
Why Ipponmatsu Park Is Worth the Trip
The star of the show!
The “Stone Pinwheel”
A pinwheel… made of stone!?
“Japan’s largest blade size, and the only stone pinwheel in all of Kyushu!”
The Stone Pinwheel actually spins on the natural breeze!
A wind speed of just 3 m/s — barely enough to rustle the pampas grass — is all it takes. Pretty incredible, right?
And the second showstopper!!
A 91-meter-long roller slide!!!!!
Slide mats are available to rent (100 yen for 2 hours).
A few important rules for the roller slide (^-^)
※ Always rent a mat before sliding
※ Keep your distance from the person in front so you don’t bump into them
※ Hold onto the handrails — without them, you can pick up dangerous speeds
and more
Without a mat, your bottom will be in serious trouble!
The 91m slide is a blast on the way down — but the climb back up these stairs… (>_<)
This mom tapped out halfway ï¼¼(_ _)
Safety railings line the entire slide from start to finish
so there’s no risk of falling off — total peace of mind (^-^)/
The first stretch feels slow — “Hey, this isn’t fast at all!” (>_<)
…then the final straight launches you into top speed!!
The kids went down it more than 20 times in a row!
That smile (^-^)
It’s clearly a huge hit ☆
There’s also a grass field — perfect for kicking around a ball or two (^з^)-☆
Note: tent setup is not allowed!
The park has clear rules in place to keep kids safe (^-^)
One more thing!
There’s a shorter slide here too — way shorter than the 91m one.
If the big roller slide feels a bit intimidating for younger kids,
this is the perfect alternative ☆
And honestly? It’s still longer than your average playground slide!
The view from up here is breathtaking (^з^)-☆
With cherry trees on site, it’s a wonderful spot for hanami (cherry blossom viewing) in spring (^-^)
Come and visit “Ipponmatsu Park” — just look for the iconic Stone Pinwheel! (^-^)/
