Looking for a relaxed, family-friendly green space in Kumamoto? Today we’re heading to Heisei Chuo Park, a wonderfully convenient little oasis sitting right next door to Sunlive City Kumanan.
【Heisei Chuo Park】 — let’s take a look around!

The park is located in Mawatari, Minami Ward, Kumamoto City, just off Heisei-odori Avenue.
With Sunlive Kumanan and convenience stores all within easy walking distance, this is one of the handiest parks in the area for travelers and families alike!
A flowing fountain greets you at the entrance. The water is shallow, so even small children can splash around safely!
The playground area is visible in the distance. Around the perimeter, you’ll spot locals out for a stroll or a brisk walk.
Feel free to cut across the grassy lawn to reach the playground area — as long as it’s safe to do so.
A basketball hoop sits right on the lawn — perfect for a pickup game!
They look like colorful candy buttons, but these are actually mushroom-shaped seats!
With such a convenient location and lovely surroundings, this would also be a beautiful spot for cherry blossom viewing in spring!

Why We Recommend Heisei Chuo Park

There are restrooms inside the park — always a relief for traveling families!
A vending machine sits conveniently next to the restroom for quick refreshments!
Bring a piece of cardboard or a sliding sheet, and you can even try grass-sledding down the slope!
Near the large play structure, there’s a second restroom and a drinking fountain.
The playground attracts not only toddlers but also plenty of elementary school kids enjoying themselves.
Right next to the main play structure, you’ll find swings as well!
There’s even a sandbox where kids can play imaginative games like “cooking” with leaves and twigs!
There’s also a dedicated area for infants and toddlers!
It’s a safe spot where even the smallest children can enjoy themselves!
