Introducing Lunch & Cafe Fuwara

Hello everyone! This is Asukarando, writer for [Sarukuma].

South Aso has plenty of fantastic places to eat, but the meal here was so genuinely delicious that I just had to share it with you all (^-^)v

And the entryway is filled with handmade goods for sale (^-^)v

The dining area at Lunch & Cafe Fuwara features table seating.

This was a smaller, cozier room with two tables — perfect when dining with kids.

Recommended Menu at Lunch & Cafe Fuwara

I went with the Fuwara Gozen, which changes every month (*^.^*)

Here’s the menu card for December’s Fuwara Gozen.
With so many dishes, I needed the card to keep track as I ate (>.<)y-~

Just look at this spread!

From left: peanuts dressed with yuzu and grated daikon, pear wrapped in pork, smoked salmon terrine, strawberry caprese, kumquat stuffed with salad, apple poached in red wine, turnip with tofu dressing, and Jerusalem artichoke with mentaiko mayo.

In the center: spinach wrapped in Chinese cabbage.

Each dish was beautifully crafted and wonderfully seasoned. I was so absorbed reading the menu card and savoring each bite that I went completely silent (*^.^*)
It was pure excitement from start to finish (^-^)v

The rice was wonderful too — I assumed it was takikomi gohan loaded with burdock, but it turned out to be pilaf!

The soup was packed with mushrooms and other ingredients, with grilled aburaage adding a lovely accent. The dashi broth was outstanding!

At first I thought this was nimono (simmered vegetables), but it turned out to be daikon-cup chawanmushi!

Inside the daikon vessel was silky steamed egg custard with bamboo shoots and other ingredients — simply brilliant!
The daikon itself had just the right bite while being deeply infused with flavor — I couldn’t fathom how something so delicious could be created (>.<)y-~

This is satoimo (taro) dumpling with chrysanthemum-flavored ankake sauce.
It held the genuine taste and texture of taro yet had a delightful chewiness, all wrapped in an elegant, glossy sauce.

Honestly — incredible!
I keep saying “incredible,” but it’s a shame photos can’t convey the flavor…

Since it was December, there was even a Christmas-themed baked chicken pizza. Western-style and very filling (^^)
With the Fuwara Gozen menu changing every month, this is a place that calls you back time and again — a refined, grown-up lunch (^-^)v

The kids’ meal came with furikake rice and a vegetable soup!
Lunch & Cafe Fuwara is wonderfully welcoming for families with children!

And here’s the after-lunch cake and coffee (*^.^*)
After much deliberation, I went with the blueberry rare cheesecake (^3^)/

For a post-lunch dessert, the portion was generously big — a happy surprise (*^.^*)
And of course, absolutely delicious!

The dessert lineup is so tempting that I’d love to come back and work my way through every single one (^^)
