📌 What you’ll learn in this article
A SaruKuma writer visits Suizenji Ezuko Park (Hiroki Area) in Hiroki, Higashi-ku, Kumamoto City and reports back. Includes family-friendly tips, access info, and opening hours.
Hello, travelers!
I’m Ayu-mama, a writer for “SaruKuma.”
Today, I’d like to introduce you to a wonderful spot located in
Hiroki, Higashi-ku, Kumamoto City:
【Suizenji Ezuko Park (Hiroki Area)】!
Previously on “SaruKuma,” our writer Gussan introduced the Kami-Ezuko Area.
This time, I’m featuring the Shimo-Ezuko (Hiroki Area)!
It’s a famous spot, so many of you may already know about it, but allow me to introduce it once again!
Suizenji Ezuko Park (Hiroki Area) is a nature-rich park spreading along the shores of Shimo-Ezuko Lake.
The parking lot is spacious and roomy!
It looks like there’s plenty of room, but on sunny weekends it can fill up completely!
When events or school field trips coincide, you may not be able to park even in the morning, so be careful!
There’s a vast lawn area to enjoy.
Visitors bring all sorts of toys and gear—balls, badminton rackets, bicycles—and have a wonderful time.

My son loves riding his bicycle here!

There’s also a playground area with equipment,
and a sports ground, too.
On the slope by the Eastern Water Treatment Center, you can even try grass sledding! (Bring your own sled.)
Right in front of you, the breathtaking scenery of Lake Ezuko unfolds!
The path along Lake Ezuko actually connects all the way to Kumamoto City Zoo and Botanical Gardens, and even further to the Kami-Ezuko area!
You’ll see plenty of joggers and walkers enjoying the scenic route!
There are benches scattered throughout.
You can sit comfortably in the shade of the trees and watch the kids play!
There are also vending machines, including one for ice cream.
There are 3 restroom facilities throughout the park.
There’s also an indoor rest area.

Highlight Points

My top recommendation has to be the water features!
As you’d expect from a place named after Lake Ezuko, the park has plenty of water!
The natural spring streams are crystal clear with a gentle flow!
The water is only ankle-deep, perfect for kids to splash and play safely!
The water is refreshingly cool, and in summer, it’s bustling with children having a blast!
There’s even a fountain-like spot!
You can also encounter many small water creatures, like little fish and tiny shrimp!
All the boys around were completely absorbed in hunting for creatures that day!
My son always brings a net to play with!
Now that the weather is pleasant, why not bring a tent or picnic blanket, pack a bento box, and spend a relaxing day here?
