About the Park

Hello there!
This is Ayu-mama, a writer for “Sarukuma.”

Today I’d like to introduce a wonderful spot located in Hakenomiya, Kita Ward, Kumamoto City:
Hakenomiya Park.
The park is conveniently located right next to the Water Science Museum we featured previously.

Water Science Museum: Discover the History of Water and Splash Around in Summer! (Hakenomiya, Kita Ward, Kumamoto City)

You can use the Water Science Museum’s parking lot,

and there’s also a dedicated park parking lot on the opposite side.
Restrooms are available too.
However, there’s no diaper-changing table here, so if you need one, we recommend using the facilities inside the Water Science Museum.
There are drinking water stations as well.

What Makes This Park Special

There’s a wide-open lawn area.

It’s seriously huge!

The grass is beautifully maintained.

You’ll find shaded benches under the trees β€” perfect for a rest.

There’s a multi-feature playground structure

and cute animal-themed ride-on toys.

There’s even a fenced-in play area designed specifically for toddlers and infants.

Inside, there are baby swings,

small tunnels, and gentle slides.

A scenic walking path circles the park, where natural spring water bubbles up and a beautifully clear stream flows alongside.

As expected from Hakenomiya β€” home of the Water Science Museum!
The water here is truly abundant.

You might even spot fireflies in the summer!

The water is so crystal clear that just gazing at it feels refreshing for the soul.
I couldn’t help wanting to let myself drift along with the current and wash all my worries away. (Maybe I’ve been listening to too much Teresa Teng!) ←lol

You’ll see ducks, white herons, and koi carp swimming in the water.
It’s incredibly rich in nature!
And there’s a reason for all this natural beauty β€” this site is the birthplace of Kumamoto’s modern water and sewage system!
You’ll even find a bronze statue of Kato Kiyomasa, the legendary lord of Kumamoto Castle.

It’s a park where you can experience water, nature, and history all in one visit!
Why not pair it with a stop at the Water Science Museum for a perfect family day out?
