Today I’m taking you to a wonderful local gem in Maibaru, Minami Ward, Kumamoto City —
the charming Jonan Library!

It sits right next to the Hinokimi Culture Hall,
just a stone’s throw from two spots we’ve featured before on Sarukuma —
RedBean bagel shop and Pan no Ie Fuwafuwa bakery (*^▽^*)

Just outside the library entrance, you’ll find another restroom equipped with a diaper-changing station — perfect for traveling families!

The reading seats are arranged with social distancing in mind!

There’s also a dedicated reading area just for kids ☆
What Makes Jonan Library Special

As soon as you walk in, you’ll spot the picture book corner on your left!

Above the picture books, there’s an adorable handmade illustration of The Giant Turnip — a beloved Russian folktale popular with Japanese children (≧▽≦)

On another visit, the display had switched to Kasa Jizo, a classic Japanese folk tale about kind statues!
The artwork is so charming and heartwarming (*^▽^*) — it makes you want to come back every month!

The insect book corner even features beetle and dragonfly figures! (=゚ω゚)ノ

Seasonal picture books are also displayed in an easy-to-browse layout!

Right next to the library, there’s also a children’s center!
It offers loads of toys you can borrow, plus a designated lunch space ♬

Two vending machines are available as well!
