A SaruKuma writer pays a personal visit to Tsutsujigaoka Park in Tsubakihara, Uto City, and shares the full scoop. We’ve put together everything you need to know β family-friendly highlights, access, and opening hours.
Welcome to Tsutsujigaoka Park
Hello there (^^) This is Chomo, a writer for [SaruKuma].
Today I’m excited to introduce Tsubakihara, Uto City and the wonderful Tsutsujigaoka Rural Park.
Most locals simply call it Tsutsujigaoka Park.
Our fellow writer Rikotama has visited here before, too!
Tsutsujigaoka Park is a place where you can enjoy the changing beauty of the four seasons β cherry blossoms and azaleas in spring, hydrangeas in summer, cosmos flowers in autumn, and plum blossoms in winter. With plenty of playground equipment and wide open spaces, it’s the perfect spot for a picnic or a leisurely stroll!
And because it sits up on a hill, the views are absolutely gorgeous. On weekends, you can even spot the scenic A-Train passing by β a real treat for train-loving kids (and grown-ups too)!
My little train enthusiast son was over the moon βͺ
Tsutsujigaoka Park has two parking areas. The first one is right by the park entrance, with space for about 10 cars.
About 200 meters further along, you’ll find a much larger lot β believe it or not, it can hold over 100 cars!

Restrooms are located right next to the parking lot.
The regular toilets are Japanese-style (squat type), but the universal-access restroom has Western-style toilets and a hand-washing area, making it convenient for international visitors.
Inside the park grounds, you’ll also find vending machines for both drinks and ice cream β perfect for a quick break with the kids on a hot day!
Right next to them, there are covered picnic tables (^^)
A lovely bit of shade β a nice perk on sunny days βͺ
Feel free to bring your own bento lunch and enjoy a meal here.
Top Highlights of Tsutsujigaoka Park
The biggest draw of Tsutsujigaoka Park is the amazing variety of playground equipment!
Let’s start with the giant slide!
It’s got serious speed β even kids in the lower elementary grades were having a blast βͺ
Little ones can ride down together with mom or dad β perfectly safe and fun for the whole family.
A wooden suspension bridge & a gentle slide!
Even adults will get a workout for their balance (haha).
The slide on the opposite side has a much gentler slope, so even smaller children can ride it confidently βͺ
My son absolutely loves this slide β he’ll go down again and again, endlessly! (^^)
A near-vertical climbing wall & loop slide!
This one is fun for kids and adults alike.
It’s so steep that even grown-ups might struggle to climb it on the first try (lol)!
Tsutsujigaoka Park also has a wide grassy lawn β perfect for kicking a ball around or blowing bubbles β
When I visited, the cherry blossoms were in full bloom, so I spread out a picnic mat and enjoyed a hanami-style lunch ( οΌΎβοΌΎ)
A wonderful little taste of traditional Japanese cherry blossom viewing βͺ
From mid-April to early May, the park’s signature azaleas (tsutsuji) come into full bloom β a truly stunning sight that gave the park its name.
With so many other flowers and plants throughout the year, you’ll always find something seasonal to enjoy. That’s another reason this park is a must-visit!
If you’re traveling with family in the Kumamoto area, definitely add Tsutsujigaoka Park to your itinerary βͺ
