Today I’m taking you to a hidden gem in Murozono, Kita Ward, Kumamoto City:
the wonderful “Kitakumamoto Station Kumaden SHOP”.

A nostalgic, retro-feel station,
with the charming Kumaden SHOP right next door (^-^)/

The Kumamoto Electric Railway (locally known as “Kumaden” or “Kikuden”) is famous for one very special train:
the adorable Kumamon Train!

It’s so popular these days that tourist buses now stop here to see it ☆

Inside Kumaden SHOP, you’ll find

EVERYWHERE you look (^-^)/

There’s even a beautifully detailed diorama of Kitakumamoto Station — kids can’t take their eyes off it!

The restrooms are located on the platform.

And yes — there’s a diaper-changing station too (^-^)

After that: 100 yen per 50 minutes

This time we rode from Kitakumamoto Station to Kamikumamoto Station — adult fare 210 yen

The journey is just about 9 minutes, but
for little ones, it’s a real train adventure (^-^)

Hopping off at parks or bakeries along the line
makes for a wonderfully fun day-out with the kids (^-^)

IC cards are accepted (^^)

If you don’t have one, simply grab a numbered ticket when boarding (^^)

You can also get a great close-up view of the driver’s cab,
which is a dream come true for any train-loving kid ☆

Sometimes you’ll even have an entire car to yourselves!

The train has 2 cars, and since most passengers ride in the front car,
the rear car is often empty —
so traveling with kids is stress-free, with no need to worry about disturbing other passengers.

Depending on the time of day, the train rarely gets crowded,
and fellow riders are always warm and welcoming, so —

this is the perfect train for kids’ very first ride or train-riding practice ☆(^-^)/

Kamikumamoto Station is the final stop, with a few minutes of stopping time —
the perfect chance to grab a snack at Eki-Machi 1-chome before heading home.
