2020.12.07

A Sarukuma writer visits Domen Park (ε ε ε ¬ε) in Oe, Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City, with hands-on tips for visiting families, access details, and opening hours.
About the Park
Hello, fellow travelers! β
This is Rikotama, your Sarukuma guide!
Today I’m taking you to
a wonderful little neighborhood park tucked into Oe, Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City:
Domen Park (ε ε
ε
¬ε)!

You’ll find it close to Kumamoto Shinto General Hospital and Shirakawa Junior High School, just a short ride from downtown!

There’s even a bus stop right out front, so getting here is super easy (*’Ο’*)

At the entrance, you’ll spot this adorable mushroom monument β instant Insta-bait! (*^-^*)

Walk past the mushroom and you’re greeted by a huge open sports field!

Plenty of shaded benches dot the park β perfect for a breather on a warm Kumamoto afternoon!

Here’s the handwashing station!

The restrooms are a little on the older side, just a heads-up.
There’s a multipurpose toilet, but unfortunately no diaper-changing table (>_<)

And get this β there’s a summer-only kids’ wading pool!!!
β»Sadly, it was closed during our visit this year.
Highlights

The real star here is hands down this large multi-feature playground (β§β½β¦)!!
I visited on a Saturday morning, and it was packed with happy families and energetic kids β

You can try out a bouldering wall,

swing on hanging rings (*^-^*)

or hop on a swing set!

Little ones can enjoy spring-mounted ride toys,

and there’s even a fun uniquely-shaped seesaw to try!

Right next to the play area, you’ll see this magnificent old camphor tree standing tall!
With benches all around, parents can relax in the shade and watch the kids burn off energy (*^β½^*)
There aren’t any vending machines inside the park, but no worries β
there’s a Lawson convenience store right across the street for drinks and snacks!
Our family loves swinging by here on the way home from the Kumamoto City Library (*’Ο’*)
There’s also an AEON shopping mall nearby in Kuhonji,
so you can easily combine the visit with errands or shopping!
If you’re exploring central Kumamoto with kids, definitely add Domen Park to your list! β¬
