Welcome to Jagatani Park

Hello there!
I’m Ayu-Mama, a writer for “Sarukuma.”

Today I’m excited to introduce you to Jagatani Park, located in Ritsuganji, Tamana City,
【Jagatani Park】.

I’d been hearing the rumors for ages.
That this park has an absolutely massive roller slide…

So let’s head over and check it out!

This is the parking area closest to the entrance.

Beautiful Japanese maple trees (irohamomiji) greet you right at the entrance!

The autumn foliage was at its peak, and the entire park looked absolutely stunning!

There’s a vending machine right at the entrance — handy for grabbing a drink.

Restrooms inside the park.

They even have small urinals designed for little boys,

and the women’s restroom has a diaper changing station too.

A drinking water fountain is also available.

Here’s the story behind the name “Jagatani” (Snake Valley).
I thought it was an unusual name — turns out there’s a fascinating history behind it!

Plenty of benches are scattered throughout,
and at the top of the roller slide, you’ll even find tables!

There’s a wide open lawn where many families were enjoying their bento lunches.
A picnic surrounded by autumn leaves — it doesn’t get better than that!

Combination athletic playground equipment.
These structures are scattered all along the hillside.

Swings.

A rope jungle gym.

There’s even a dedicated play area for little ones!

Top Highlights of Jagatani Park

The number one must-try is, of course, this! The mega 130-meter roller slide!!!

It’s looooong!
You literally can’t see the top from down here!

You borrow a sliding mat from the bottom before heading up.

Then you climb this seriously steep staircase.
↑ This is the toughest part… it’s quite the workout, lol!

Forgot to grab a mat at the bottom? No worries!
If you’re lucky, there are spare mats waiting at the top!

Check out this view from the top — absolutely breathtaking!

There’s also an observation deck even higher up — if you’ve still got the energy, definitely climb up for a look.
They say the views stretch even farther from there!

So I gave the slide a go myself.
When adults slide down, the extra weight means you pick up some serious speed!!!

I ended up barreling into my son in front of me — total chaos!

After all that excitement, we made it back safely.

As expected from Kumamoto Prefecture’s longest roller slide —
