Welcome to Harakata Park

Hello there, fellow travelers!
This is Igaguri, your Sarukuma writer.

Today, I’m excited to introduce you to a charming local gem tucked away in Harakata, Nagasu Town, Tamana District, Kumamoto Prefecture โ€” the wonderful Harakata Park.

That red roof you can spot in the distance? That’s Harakata Elementary School โ€” a lovely backdrop to the park.

When most folks think of parks in Nagasu Town, the famous “Goldfish and Carp Village Park” usually comes to mind first.
It was previously featured by our writer Asukarando.

What’s great about Harakata Park is that nets have been installed, so we even spotted some folks happily playing catch! (^^โ™ช

There’s even a hand-washing station โ€” handy for sticky little fingers!

What Makes Harakata Park Special

Now, let’s check out the playground equipment!

You’ll find a slide, swings, and not one but two rotating play structures!

Step inside, and…

You can hold on tight for the spinning fun.

Or even take a nap. (Not recommended!)

Okay, this looks completely suspicious. (Sorry!)

Depending on the time of day, the swings can sit in a nicely shaded spot โ€” perfect for those sunny Kumamoto afternoons!

This chair-style rotating play structure is pretty unique โ€” you don’t see these often!

As it spins, kids can hop from blue to yellow to the next color, walking along while it goes round and round. (^^;

Near the slide, there’s a portable-style permanent restroom available!

The slides come in cheerful red and yellow โ€” one with a small gap and one without.

There’s also plenty of space for sandbox play.

On this particular day, we found ourselves observing the lovely shadows cast behind the slide. (haha)

In front of the park, you’ll find a shrine and a parking area.

Heads up though โ€” that parking lot belongs to a nearby apartment building, so it’s not for park visitors. We dropped by after grabbing some shopping at the nearby Maruei Nagasu Store!

Pictured: enjoying a Choco Monaka Jumbo (a popular Japanese ice cream sandwich) inside the car.
It’s that age where you only want to eat the chocolate part! (A tragic situation, indeed.)

Quick tip: there are no vending machines on-site, so be sure to bring along plenty of drinks for hydration before you visit! (^^)/
