Introducing 24 Sweets Shop Kumamoto Sunabaru
Hello travelers! It’s Aikero, your local guide writing for [SaruKuma], Kumamoto’s beloved family lifestyle blog.
Today I’m taking you to a one-of-a-kind sweets paradise in Sunabaru-machi, Minami Ward, Kumamoto City:
[24 Sweets Shop Kumamoto Sunabaru].
This isn’t your average dessert shop!
It’s a 24-hour, 365-days-a-year specialty store gathering Instagram-famous “eiga sweets” (photogenic desserts) from all over Japan ^^/
If you’ve ever scrolled through Instagram thinking, “I really want to try that, but it’s not available in Kumamoto…” — well, your dream dessert just might be waiting here!
The location is incredibly convenient for visitors — less than a 5-minute drive from [Aqua Dome Kumamoto], another popular spot we’ve featured on SaruKuma ♪
Parking sits directly in front of the shop and fits about 3–4 cars.
Important: please do NOT park in the wide space to the left of the shop (>_<)
If you’re driving a larger vehicle, park diagonally to avoid sticking out into the road, or use the parking lot at the nearby FamilyMart Akita store, which is also available to customers. In that case, please park toward the edges to be courteous ^^
24 Sweets Shop Kumamoto Sunabaru is an unmanned, self-service store — a fascinating glimpse into Japan’s growing automated retail culture.
Inside, rows of frozen showcases line the walls, accented by adorable neon decorations — a perfect Instagram backdrop in itself! ♪
Shopping baskets are ready right by the entrance.
Pro tip: Check the shop’s Instagram Stories before visiting to see what’s currently in stock! ^.^
Now, let me walk you through the lineup I spotted during my visit!
Mitarashi Dango in a Jar — 700 yen
On the right: Whole Banana Smoothies — from 600 yen
Gateau Chocolat — 300 yen
Com Crepe Brûlée — 800 yen
Watching your sugar intake? They’ve got a low-carb selection too!
Low-Sugar Silky Pudding (assorted) — from 500 yen
The rolled ice cream was sold out on the day I visited.
Cream Puff — 200 yen
Cream Stick — 300 yen
Cold Stone Ice Cream (assorted) — from 300 yen
You’ve probably seen many of these brands featured on Japanese social media! ^^/
Tiramisu (assorted) — 600 yen
Lots of cute desserts in jars here ^o^
Warabi Mochi Ice Cream (assorted) — 400 yen
This one really caught my eye — a fusion of traditional Japanese warabi mochi and ice cream!
Cornet Pie Cream Puff — 400 yen
A cornet AND a pie cream puff in one — the best of both worlds!
Baum Sandwiches (assorted) — from 700 yen
At first glance I thought these were fruit sandwiches — turns out they’re fruit sandwiches made by a baumkuchen specialty shop using their signature German layered cake!
Fruit Sandwiches (assorted) — from 500 yen
These are the classic Japanese fruit sando — soft white bread with cream and fresh fruit. Don’t mix them up with the baum versions! ^^/
Parfait Cans (assorted) — from 950 yen
These are sweet potato and Mont Blanc parfaits in a can.
The colors are absolutely gorgeous! ^o^
Shortcake in a Can (assorted) — from 1,000 yen
You’ve definitely seen these viral cake-in-a-can desserts trending on Japanese social media! ^.^
Tteu-ngcaron (Korean-style chubby macarons, assorted) — 500 yen
Yuka-tan Chiffon Cakes (assorted) — 400 yen
Heavenly Canelés (assorted) — from 500 yen
I was surprised to learn they sell bread, too — not just sweets!
Ice Pack — 10 yen each
Since everything is frozen, having ice packs available for purchase is a real lifesaver — especially helpful for tourists carrying treats back to a hotel!
Photos of each item are posted around the shop, making it easy to picture how your dessert will look when you actually eat it ♪
Paper Bag — 30 yen each
Insulated Bag with Gusset — 150 yen each

Checkout is fully self-service!
One important heads-up: it’s NOT a barcode scanner system (>_<)
Apologies the photo is cut off, but here’s how it works: select the product category from the left side of the screen.
Pick the item from the visual menu and choose the quantity.
With product names AND photos displayed, the interface is very intuitive — even if you don’t read Japanese.
For multiple purchases, just select one item, return to the categories, and pick the next one.
Please double-check that your items match the register total before paying ^^/
Once you’ve selected everything, press the blue [Checkout] button.
I chose to pay with cash, which brought up this screen.
Insert your money and press the [Pay] button — that’s it!
Here’s the cash slot.
Some online reviews mentioned that the machine didn’t give change, but that issue seems fixed — I got my change back without a problem ^o^
Right next to the cash register, there’s a separate [Credit Card / Cashless Payment Only] register — perfect for international travelers who prefer card payments.
Spoons and straws are stocked in front of the register — grab whatever you need ^^/
24 Sweets Shop Kumamoto Sunabaru — Recommended Picks

This time I went home with the Shortcake in a Can and the Com Crepe Brûlée ♪
Ironic that I’m reviewing photogenic sweets but my photos aren’t very photogenic ^_^;
The shortcake can is supposed to thaw for 4 hours in the fridge, but I left mine overnight to be safe ^_^;
Honestly, I had my doubts — wouldn’t a frozen sponge cake turn out dry and crumbly? Was this all looks and no taste? But I was completely wrong — the sponge was incredibly moist and silky-smooth!
It looks adorable AND tastes fantastic — my kids absolutely loved it ♪
I tried the Crepe Brûlée while it was still half-frozen.
The caramelized sugar top was perfectly crisp with a beautiful bittersweet edge — delicious!
Inside, the custard-flavored filling had an ice-cream-like texture that melted in the mouth ♪
That dessert you’ve been eyeing on Japanese social media? It just might be waiting for you here!
Open 24 hours a day, so you can grab a treat any time the craving hits.
If you’re traveling through Kumamoto, definitely add 24 Sweets Shop to your itinerary (●^o^●)
