Welcome to Kengun Kamiyamatatekubo Park
Hello, travelers!
I just finished rearranging my house and feeling refreshed —
this is Binako, your SaruKuma writer!
Today I’m introducing a hidden little spot in
Enoki-machi, Higashi Ward, Kumamoto City, called
“Kengun Kamiyamatatekubo Park”.

This is a small park tucked into a residential neighborhood, so there’s no parking lot.
It mostly serves as a gathering spot for the local kids,
but trust me — this little park has serious charm, and I just had to share it with you…
There’s one drinking fountain and hand-washing station.
No restrooms here, so I recommend stopping by the nearby
Sadowara Rocky supermarket or 7-Eleven beforehand.
Oops — you can spot some of my personal stuff in the photo, haha!
There’s also one covered bench available.
Why You Should Visit Kengun Kamiyamatatekubo Park

The park is compact, so it’s not really suited for
running around or playing ball games.
BUT!!
While there’s no space for ball games…
There’s a surprising variety of playground equipment.
And here’s the best part: because the park is small, you can keep an eye on your kids
no matter which equipment they’re playing on — total peace of mind for parents.
Here’s something I learned through SaruKuma —
the spring rider toy.
I’ve always called it a “boing-boing“ in my head!
Turns out it has an actual name…
And honestly? Even adults find these surprisingly fun to ride.
The slide has a nice curve to it,
and it picks up a fun amount of speed on the way down.
The local kids were playing classic Japanese tag games like “Iro-Oni” (Color Tag) and “Taka-Oni” (High Tag).
It brought back so many childhood memories for me…
These old-school games really stand the test of time.
There’s also a horizontal bar.
You’d be surprised how few parks actually have one these days.
My son — no idea where he picked it up — was happily attempting his own
improvised pull-up flip on the bar.
There’s also a sandbox, and honestly, the variety of play equipment packed into this small park really impressed me.
We didn’t have any sand toys with us,
so my son just dug in with his bare hands and got creative.
And here’s the masterpiece —
THE ☆ MOUNTAIN (literally, a mountain)
A heartfelt creation, sculpted with all his might.
Yikes, the wrinkles on my hand are showing in the photo…
But hey, these are still youthful Binako hands. Take a good look!
Anyway, back on topic — the sandbox even has seashells mixed in,
so you can do a bit of seashell hunting too!
So, did I sell you on the charm of Kengun Kamiyamatatekubo Park?
Parents can relax on the bench while watching their kids play
from every angle — that’s why I highly recommend it.
One important note: since this is a residential-area park, the road is right at the entrance,
so please be extra careful around the entrance and exit!
