About Kingyo no Yakata (Goldfish Hall)

Hello, travelers!
I’m Asukarando, a writer for SaruKuma.

Today I’m introducing
Nagasu Town, Tamana District, Kumamoto Prefecture‘s very own
“Kingyo no Yakata” (Goldfish Hall).

Did you know Nagasu Town is famous throughout Japan for its goldfish? (*^^*)

I headed over to “Kingyo no Yakata” to meet these adorable swimmers up close!

Here’s the entrance! (^-^)

Temperature checks and hand sanitizer are set up right at the entrance. (^-^)

There are vending machines at the entrance, so no worries if you forgot a drink! (^ะท^)-โ˜†

When I visited, Kingyo no Yakata was decorated for Hinamatsuri (the Japanese Doll Festival)!

There’s also a small shop selling bento boxes and sweets!

Bento Box: 400 yen

Available on weekends and holidays from around 10:30 to 13:00.

And don’t forget dessert! (^o^)/

Ikinari Dango (Kumamoto’s signature sweet potato dumpling): 110 yen
Sweet Potato: 110 yen
Imo Pie (sweet potato pie): 110 yen

There’s an eat-in space where you can sit and relax. (*^^*)

There are also tables right beside the koi pond! (^-^)

Kids’ chairs are available too โ€” a nice touch for families. (*^^*)

Goldfish-themed toys are sold at very reasonable prices โ€” wonderful for souvenirs! (^o^)/

There are also looooots of handmade crafts and goods
to browse โ€” fun for any visitor! (^-^)v

There’s even a coloring corner! (^-^)

An experience you can ONLY have here:

goldfish-shaped coloring sheets!!!

The restroom even has a diaper changing table. (^-^)

Please take used diapers home with you.

Why You’ll Love Kingyo no Yakata

You can see SO many varieties of goldfish!!!

The tanks are designed at children’s eye level,
so even the youngest visitors can enjoy these adorable little swimmers. (*^^*)

You can even try kingyo-sukui (goldfish scooping)!!!!!

4 paper scoopers (poi): 100 yen!!!

Use all 4 yourself, or share them with siblings or friends!
Worried about taking goldfish home? No problem โ€” here, the goldfish you scoop stay at the facility, so you can enjoy the fun without the commitment. (^o^)/

For those who DO want a goldfish to take home, various types are available for purchase. (^-^)v

And then โ€” my son’s first goldfish scooping in ages!

He kept scooping them up, one after another! (โŒ’0โŒ’)๏ผ~~

His skills had improved without me even noticing! (*^^*)

Right next door is super-ball scooping (a classic Japanese festival game with bouncy balls)! (^ะท^)-โ˜†

1 poi: 100 yen
However many you scoop, the rule is to take home only 3. (^-^)

Of course, we had to try both! (^ะท^)-โ˜†

The pool has both bouncy balls and rubber goldfish, and my son was determined to scoop the goldfish ones! (^o^)/

Inside Kingyo no Yakata, koi fish food (100 yen) is also for sale. (^-^)

We bought some koi food right away

and headed straight to the koi pond! (*^^*)

Whoa โ€” that’s a LOT of koi!

The splashing is incredible!
Watch out for the spray! (^-^)

There are benches by the pond too โ€” perfect for relaxing on a nice day. (^-^)

There are wooden slides and toys for younger children, but they were temporarily closed for infection prevention during our visit.

Because Kingyo no Yakata is an indoor facility, you can enjoy your visit no matter the weather โ€” bad weather, cold, or summer heat are no problem. (*^^*)

Come meet all the wonderful varieties of goldfish at Kingyo no Yakata! (โŒ’0โŒ’)๏ผ~~
