Introducing Tsutsujigaoka Rural Park

Hello, travelers!
This is Rikotama, writer for《Sarukuma》!

Today we’re introducing
a wonderful spot located in Tsubakihara-machi, Uto City, Kumamoto Prefecture:
【Tsutsujigaoka Rural Park】!

With the kids on spring break 🌸 and gloriously warm weather,
we decided to take a scenic drive out to Uto City for a fun family outing!

On the way, we crossed the Amakusa-Misumi Line railway, and as luck would have it, we spotted the famous《Limited Express A-Train》passing by!

My kids were absolutely thrilled to see it!

There are three parking areas with space for over 100 cars — plenty of room for everyone!

Behind the parking area, you’ll find sprawling farm fields, and beyond them a sweeping view across Uto and Kumamoto City!

Here are the restrooms.

The standard stalls are Japanese-style squat toilets, but the multi-purpose restroom has a Western-style toilet available!

There are two hand-washing stations and drinking fountains.

There are also covered benches!

The roof is generously wide — perfect shade on sunny days!

Across from the park there’s a management building,
and that’s where you’ll find a vending machine!

Top Highlights of Tsutsujigaoka Rural Park

Tsutsujigaoka Rural Park is packed with massive playground equipment that kids absolutely love! ❤

Take a look at this play structure with a curved spiral slide:

On the opposite side, there’s something that looks like a Sasuke-style climbing wall (think Japanese ninja warrior obstacle course)!

It’s a seriously imposing wall!
My son bravely tackled it again and again, and after about 10 tries he finally made it to the top!

And then there’s this play structure!

At first I thought, “Is that an elephant’s trunk?” but when I walked around to the front…

Whoa! It’s the Dream Tree!

It looked like something straight out of a Japanese children’s TV show — a magical tree-shaped 🌲 play structure!

Around the back there’s a wide stone slide!

And let me tell you — this one is FAST!

There’s also a low slide perfect for younger children!

And don’t miss the incredibly long slide!

It’s a bit older, but there’s also a fun seesaw!

And just behind it, you’ll find tennis courts too!

Right next to the playground equipment area, there’s a wide open lawn!

On the day we visited, families started rolling in around 10:30am, bringing balls and badminton sets,
spreading out picnic blankets, and just enjoying the sunshine.

And true to the park’s name (Tsutsujigaoka means “Azalea Hill”)! The azaleas 🌺 were starting to bloom — they should be in full glory through Golden Week (Japan’s spring holiday week in early May)! 🎵
