A Sarukuma writer visits and reports on “Wakaizumi Private Family Onsen — Yamaga City Shikko-dori,” a natural hot spring facility in Kumamoto. Prices start from 1,100 yen. We’ve also covered family-friendly tips, access, and opening hours.

Introducing Wakaizumi Private Family Onsen

Hello, everyone! This is Miruku, a writer for [Sarukuma].

Today I’d like to introduce Wakaizumi Private Family Onsen, a wonderful hot spring located on Shikko-dori in Yamaga City.

Wakaizumi features alkaline simple hot spring water (gentle on the body), known to be effective for nerve pain, rheumatoid arthritis, frozen shoulder, lower back pain, weakened digestive function, and poor circulation.

The facility has a total of 14 private bath rooms — 10 with indoor baths only and 4 with both indoor and outdoor (rotenburo) baths.

The pricing structure is wonderfully simple and very affordable! ❣️

The standard bathing time is 50 minutes.

  • Indoor bath only… 1,100 yen
  • With outdoor bath… 1,300 yen

Each room accommodates up to 2 people (excluding infants).
Additional guests are charged 100 yen per person.

You purchase tickets from this vending machine right at the entrance.
You can also extend your bathing time (10 minutes for 200 yen) and purchase items like towels here. 😊

They also offer great-value multi-use ticket books! 😆

  • Indoor bath 11-ticket book… 11,000 yen
  • Outdoor bath 11-ticket book… 13,000 yen

Essentially, after 10 visits, your 11th visit is free! 😆 ❣️

The pricing is so straightforward and incredibly reasonable, isn’t it? ☺️

The central courtyard surrounded by the bath rooms is also lovely! 🌟

There are vending machines and even fresh milk for sale — a classic post-bath treat! 😆

Please note that the facility is closed every Tuesday! ❣️
Now let’s head to the baths! 🛀

Highlights of Wakaizumi Private Family Onsen

This time, I chose the room with outdoor bath (50 minutes for 1,300 yen)! ☺️

I received a tag with my time written on it at the reception, and headed to Room 13. ☺️

Stepping inside…

A spacious changing room awaits! ☺️
There’s even a bench in the back, plus air conditioning and a hairdryer.

And here’s the indoor bath! ☺️
So wonderfully spacious! 😆

※Please note: Shampoo and body wash are NOT provided, so be sure to bring your own!

The water temperature is just right, and you can adjust it by adding cold water if it gets too hot! ❣️

And here’s the outdoor bath (rotenburo)! ❣️

It has two depth levels — the right side matches the depth of the indoor bath, while the left side is shallower, making it perfect for kids to enjoy too! 😊

Sometimes parents want to soak a little longer, but kids can’t usually stay in the bath as long. Having a shallow area where they can cool off is so convenient! 😊

All this for just 1,300 yen! ❣️
It was such a satisfying experience! ☺️

I highly recommend everyone try out Wakaizumi Private Family Onsen for yourselves! ☺️ ❣️
