Video Creator Exhibition in Kumamoto: A Must-Visit YouTuber Experience for Families (Kamitori, Chuo-ku)

About the Video Creator Exhibition Kumamoto
Hello travelers! This is “Gussan,” a writer for SaruKuma.
The other day at my son’s open-class day at school (he’s in 3rd grade), he proudly announced his dream career: “YouTuber!” So naturally, I had to take him to the currently-running [Video Creator Exhibition]. I won’t spoil all the fun, but here’s a little taste of what to expect.
The venue is the Contemporary Art Museum, Kumamoto (CAMK), located in Kamitori-cho, Chuo-ku, Kumamoto City.
It’s on the 3rd floor of the Bipress Kumanichi Kaikan building. Just hop on the escalator that’s visible from the tram street.
Once you reach the top of the escalator, head through the automatic doors.
If you have a stroller, you can take the elevator from inside Bipress Kumanichi Kaikan instead.
The museum hallways are nice and wide, and we spotted several visitors with strollers having no trouble getting around.
Admission prices:
General: 1,300 yen (1,100 yen)
Senior: 1,000 yen (800 yen)
Student (high school and above): 800 yen (600 yen)
Junior high school students and younger: FREE
*Prices in parentheses are for advance tickets and groups of 20+.
Free admission for kids junior high age and younger — what a deal!
Be sure to read the notices posted at the entrance and exit before going in.
The pamphlet you receive at the entrance has fun video creator trivia questions, so you can quiz yourself as you walk through.
Here’s “HajimeSyachō” — one of Japan’s biggest YouTubers and a kid favorite.
I watch him on YouTube all the time, but seeing him in life size made me realize: wow, he really is super tall, super slim, and his face is tiny!
Looking at “Himahima Channel’s” daily schedule, the dads in the room were muttering, “They work harder than I do!” Ha!
“Hey, you’ve seen the video with this robot before, right?!”
I was honestly more excited than the kids. Haha!
On the opposite side, you’ll also find “Silk” and “Ndaho” from Fischer’s.
For what it’s worth, I’ve always had a soft spot for guys like Silk who can do anything well. (Not that anyone asked!)
There’s even a corner where you can submit video ideas for the creators!
I told my kids, “Maybe they’ll actually film your idea on YouTube!” — but they just casually wrote “Please come visit our elementary school.” Haha!
Fingers crossed it reaches them ♡
Why You Should Visit the Video Creator Exhibition Kumamoto
The [Video Creator Exhibition] isn’t just about learning how YouTube and video creators work — there are tons of hands-on booths where you can try it yourself.
And the best part? Every video you make can be downloaded by scanning a QR code!
There’s a 15-second time limit, so it helps to have your QR code reader ready in advance.
*Standard data charges apply when downloading videos.
The “Fischer’s” booth lets you team up with friends to throw soft balls at “Garbage Monsters” on a screen.
It sounds easy, but those monsters are surprisingly hard to hit!
I may have gotten a little too into it. Haha!
It’s perfect fun for parents and kids together.
There’s also a HajimeSyachō-approved “unboxing dance” corner where you can film your own goofy video.
Your clip gets edited on the spot — it really feels like watching a real YouTube video. So fun!
There’s a VTuber corner where you can film yourself as an animated character with a modified voice,
and a game-streamer booth where you can pretend to be a famous gaming YouTuber. We got a real taste of the YouTuber life!
The Video Creator Exhibition runs in Kumamoto from Saturday, July 8 through Sunday, September 24.
There are plenty more highlights I haven’t shared here, so make this a stop on your summer Kumamoto itinerary!
