About Sunabara Minami Park

Hello! This is Aikero, a writer for [Sarukuma].

Today I’m introducing a charming little spot in Sunabaramachi, Minami Ward, Kumamoto City
[Sunabara Minami Park].

Tucked inside a quiet residential neighborhood, this park features lovely, well-maintained playground equipment.
Of course, on the snowy day we visited, no one else was out playing! (^_^;)

Here’s the park signboard!
The restrooms are located right at the entrance, on the right-hand side.
While not visible in the photo, there are two doorways — the front entrance is the men’s restroom, and the one in the back is the women’s restroom and washbasin area.A drinking fountain and handwashing station can be found near the center of Sunabara Minami Park. There’s one covered bench with a roof.
Since there isn’t much natural shade, this is the perfect spot to escape the sun on bright days.
There’s one bench facing the sandbox, plus three more arranged around the open play ground.

Sunabara Minami Park Highlights

What looks like an ordinary slide is actually a multi-feature climbing structure — there are several different ways to climb up, and it even has a fireman’s pole!
Kids who love to climb are sure to be thrilled by this design (●^o^●)
The first thing that catches your eye is a colorful trio of caterpillar-style ride-on toys.

They look like cousins of “Ugougo,” the spiky green caterpillar I covered at another park,
so I looked up their names — and discovered something amazing!

Yellow [Honey] – Rarity 0.5
“A gentle bee that doesn’t sting. Don’t mistake me for a fried shrimp!”

Pink [Happy] – Rarity 1.5
“Happy is a butterfly that brings joy. The day you play with her, your luck will rise!”

Green [Hopper] – Rarity 2.5! (Max is 3)
“A bouncy grasshopper. Grab his antennae and hop along together!”

From “The Field Guide to Mysterious Creatures Living in Parks” by Kotobuki Corporation

From now on, I can pick whichever critter matches my mood — Happy when I want a luck boost, Hopper when I’m hoping to spot a rare one, and Honey when I’m craving fried shrimp! It’s even more fun this way (^^)/ haha

The sandbox is heart-shaped! (^_^)v
Bring along your sand toys for an extra-fun visit!

Right next to the slide are the swings!
…But did you notice something? There’s a swing for little ones, too!
This is such a thoughtful detail (●^o^●)
Let your toddlers swing to their heart’s content! ♪

Hidden in this peaceful neighborhood, Honey, Happy, and Hopper are waiting to greet you (^^)/
Grab some tasty snacks and pop by for a visit! ♪
