About the Shop

Hello there!
This is Mikan, writer for [Sarukuma].

Today I’m introducing a wonderful spot located in
Tsukure, Kikuyo Town, Kikuchi District, Kumamoto Prefecture:
Tori Kara Ton (鳥唐豚)“.

First-time visitors might find themselves wondering “Where is it?!”
as they search for the shop.
It’s tucked away on a quieter backstreet in the increasingly bustling Kikuyo Town —
a charming little shop nestled in a peaceful residential area.

The shop can be hard to spot from the front,
but from the side, you’ll see the name boldly displayed.

Here’s what makes this place special: their dedication to quality!

Recommended Menu

I was torn between this and the Chicken Tartare Bento,
but this time I went with the Salt Karaage Bento (562 yen).

The moment I received the freshly made bento,
the most amazing aroma hit me!
The trip home felt like an eternity… (lol)

And then, I was blown away by the bento!!
It came with stickers proudly noting “Domestic Herb-Fed Chicken” and “Kikuyo-Grown Rice”.

How many bento shops put this much care into their ingredients?!
You can really tell they’re passionate about what they serve —
I was honestly a bit moved.

And here’s what’s inside — ta-da!

Packed to the brim with no gaps in sight,
and so much karaage that the lid practically lifts off ♪

First, let’s try the karaage.
Each piece is neither too big nor too small —
just the perfect size.

I dug in while it was still hot!
Crispy! So good~!
Salt karaage is light by nature,

which lets the natural flavor of the chicken really shine through!
You can truly taste the chicken itself.

I noticed a little something tucked into the bento —
this must be the lemon sauce the staff mentioned!

Next, I tried it with the lemon sauce.
Delicious~! No question about it~!
Lemon really is essential with karaage, isn’t it?

The karaage is amazing on its own, but
the flavor reaches a whole new level with lemon!!!

I’m a lemon-lover, so
I ended up drenching every piece in the lemon sauce!

Look at that beautiful, glistening white rice!!!
Quality rice in a bento makes such a huge difference, doesn’t it?

Rice is so simple that
the quality of what you use really stands out.
Honestly, I’ve stopped going to bento shops before because the rice wasn’t good (lol).

But this Hinohikari rice grown in Kikuyo —
even on its own, it’s incredibly sweet and delicious!

To help you enjoy that wonderful rice, perhaps,
there’s an impressive selection of side dishes!

On top of the rice, there’s umeboshi (pickled plum) and takuan (pickled radish),
plus meatballs, kinpira lotus root, and shibazuke pickles.
You almost forget there’s karaage in there too! (lol) (lol)

While savoring all those carefully chosen ingredients,
before I knew it — empty plate! And completely full!
The bento has real depth and was incredibly satisfying!

Perfect for adults, and ideal for hungry, growing kids too ♪

Be sure to try a bento from “Tori Kara Ton” —
made with safe, secure, carefully selected ingredients.
You’ll be so glad you did!
