A SaruKuma writer visits “Shizukuya” in Nankan Town, Tamana District, and shares a firsthand report. Price range: from 500 yen. Includes family-friendly tips, access info, and opening hours.

About the Shop

Hello, travelers!
This is Maru, your SaruKuma writer ๐Ÿ™‚

Today I’m excited to introduce you to a hidden gem located in Nankan Town, Tamana District, Kumamoto Prefecture,
“Shizukuya”.

It’s a takeout-only specialty shop for xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) and ikinari dango (sweet potato dumplings) ๐Ÿ˜‹

There are a few chairs and tables out front, so you can also enjoy your treats on the spot.

The shop is located along Prefectural Route 4 (the Tamana-Yame Line).
Parking is available right in front of the shop ๐Ÿš™=๊’ฑโ€ง*

Inside the shop, you’ll also find roasted almonds, originally from Germany!

Roasted almonds: 500 yen per bag.
You can choose from a variety of flavors, including coffee, caramel, and chocolate!

The signature Nankan Xiaolongbao is just 70 yen each โ€” incredibly affordable!

The jumbo size is aptly called Nankan Dairyuhou (Giant Soup Dumpling) at 300 yen each.

I’d never heard of a “Dairyuhou” before โ€” what a discovery! ๐Ÿ˜

You’ll also find takana (pickled mustard greens) and miso-flavored xiaolongbao, plus a Kumamon-shaped Dairyuhou that kids absolutely love!
Ikinari dango
is also on the menu!

Their ikinari dango is reportedly very popular too โœจ

Frozen items are also available, making them perfect souvenirs to take home ๐Ÿ˜Š

They also offer four flavors of soft serve ice cream.

Recommended Menu

This time, I started with the Dairyuhou (Giant Soup Dumpling) โœจ

It’s said to be four times the size of a regular xiaolongbao ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
It is HUGE.

Piping hot and steaming!!!

Generously stuffed with Kumamoto’s prized Akaushi (red beef) ๐Ÿฎ

Packed with filling and bursting with the rich umami of Akaushi beef!
It’s seasoned to perfection, so you can enjoy it just as it is โ€” no dipping sauce needed ๐Ÿ˜‹

I also picked up regular xiaolongbao, takana xiaolongbao, and miso xiaolongbao!

Can you tell how wonderfully chewy and pillowy the carefully crafted dough is?!

And get this โ€” every dumpling is wrapped by hand ๐Ÿ’›

I especially recommend the takana xiaolongbao โœจ

The slightly spicy pickled mustard greens pair beautifully with the meat ๐Ÿ˜‹

The miso xiaolongbao is light and easy to eat โ€” equally delicious!

With so many delicious flavors of xiaolongbao and dairyuhou to enjoy,
plus the popular ikinari dango, you have to give them a try โœจ
