Welcome to Hana Cafe

Hello, travelers!
It’s a rainy day, but my spirits are bright —
This is Binako, your SaruKuma writer!

Today I’m thrilled to introduce you to a hidden gem
tucked away in Takehara-machi, Yatsushiro City, Kumamoto Prefecture:
Hana Cafe.

Soft-serve ice cream motifs everywhere!
The exterior is small, cozy, and undeniably cute.

Free parking for three cars is available right next to the cafe.

Inside, you’ll find counter seating —
perfect for solo travelers stopping by for a quick bite.

Toward the back, there are table seats and
comfy sofa seats — a real plus for families with little ones.

At the counter, you’ll spot the day’s fresh-baked sweets,
cheesecake (110 yen),
and granola for sale.

The cafe also sells charming knick-knacks and fresh flowers,
so you can browse while waiting for your lunch — what a treat!

There’s even a small bookshelf with picture books,
so kids stay happily entertained while waiting for their meal.

Beyond dine-in, Hana Cafe also offers takeout — perfect for a picnic by the river or a packed lunch on the go.

Special Plate on offer —

And of course, there’s a takeout menu too!

This time, I tried the Hot Sandwich (curry, egg, and cheese).

A piping-hot sandwich warms not just your stomach, but your soul too!

Pull it apart, and
the melted cheese is absolutely insane.

Rich, savory cheese paired with a gentle, mild curry —
adults will love it, and kids will definitely fall for it too.

Plus, the toasted crust on the outside
is wonderfully crispy, like a little snack on its own.
Two textures, twice the joy.

Next up, I tried the picture-perfect
Happiness Dessert Plate — almost too pretty to eat!

The warabi mochi is a salted warabi mochi,
so each bite carries a delicate, perfectly balanced touch of salt.

Try it with kinako (roasted soybean flour) or black sesame for extra fun flavor combinations.

The waffle has a natural, gentle sweetness and a beautifully fluffy texture — easy to love.

The cheesecake is just the right size, too.

Not too sweet, beautifully moist,
and wonderfully satisfying — a cheesecake with just the right gentle sweetness
that makes you want to come back for more.

The staff was incredibly kind and welcoming, too.

From kids to grown-ups, everyone can enjoy lunch and dessert here —
do stop by Hana Cafe when you’re exploring the Yatsushiro area!
