Introducing Tenkaippin Minamitakae
Hello travelers!
I’m Ayu-mama, a writer for “SaruKuma.”
Today I’m taking you to
Minamitakae in Kumamoto City’s Minami Ward, to visit
Tenkaippin Minamitakae.
This is one of Japan’s most famous ramen chains โ so iconic that the popular variety show “Ametalk!” once dedicated an entire episode to comedians who are obsessed with it,
‘Tenkaippin Comedians.’
You can’t miss the bold signboard!
It jumps right out at you as you drive by.
Here’s the parking lot โ convenient for visitors with a rental car.
A traditional Japanese-style storefront welcomes you in.
Opening hours posted out front.
Inside you’ll find regular table seating and
a counter where you can watch the action.
Traveling with kids? They’ve got picture books and origami paper on hand, so families are more than welcome!
Recommended Menu at Tenkaippin Minamitakae
Take a look at the menu.

So many ramen varieties to choose from!
They even have items exclusive to western Japan.
Set meals (teishoku)
And just look at all the gyoza dumpling options!
Plus a great selection of rice dishes!
The complimentary services here are next-level!
The moment you sit down, you’re treated to free boiled eggs โ one for each person at the table!
Such a lovely welcome touch (*ยดโ๏ฝ*)
Eat them right away as a starter!
Or drop one on top of your ramen โ both ways are delicious!
My son didn’t hesitate โ he grabbed the seasoning salt and dug right in!
Now, when in Tenkaippin, there’s only one thing to order!
The ‘Kotteri Ramen (rich) โ 770 yen’ โ and that’s exactly what I had.
The broth is so thick and rich it’s almost like a chicken potage โ wonderfully creamy and indulgent!
This is the flavor that hooks you for life!
The way the soup clings to every noodle is absolutely irresistible!
Halfway through, I added this spicy seasoning to switch up the flavor โ the gentle heat made me want to keep eating!
When I finished the last drop of broth, the bottom of the bowl read: “See you again tomorrow.”
And honestly? You’ll want to come back the very next day!
My son went for the ‘Kid’s Ramen (light/assari) โ 470 yen’!
This one features a clean, soy sauce-based broth โ perfect for younger or first-time eaters.
Better yet, the kid’s ramen comes with a free toy!
(My son spent ages picking the perfect one with that classic look of intense concentration.)
To top it all off, he was given a candy at the end โ one very satisfied little customer!
If you’ve never tried it before,
you absolutely must experience this rich, creamy ramen for yourself!
You’ll be hooked on Tenkaippin in no time โ guaranteed!
