Introducing Akaushi Specialty Restaurant Yamanosato 2nd Branch

Hello there!
I’m Binako, a writer for Sarukuma, your local Kumamoto guide.

Today I’m taking you to
Hakusan, Chuo-ku, Kumamoto City, to a place called
“Akaushi Specialty Restaurant Yamanosato 2nd Branch”.

The original restaurant is located in Ubuyama Village in the Aso region, where they run both a restaurant and an inn.
It’s a beloved spot that has been in business for 50 years!

This time, I finally stopped by their 2nd branch, a place I’ve been curious about every time I drove past!

The parking lot is right out front.
Yes, I was so excited I arrived 10 minutes before opening — guilty as charged!

Inside, you’ll find counter seats,
so it’s easy to drop in even if you’re dining solo.

Groups of two or more are seated at semi-private booth tables.
A little touch of privacy really makes a difference, doesn’t it?

Here’s a closer look at the table seating.

Once seated, I noticed a little guide to the original restaurant in Ubuyama Village.
It lists both inn and restaurant prices, which is super handy
if you’re planning a getaway with friends or family.

They also offer a takeout menu (11:00–19:00).
Imagine enjoying premium Akaushi beef lunch with the family at home…
Doesn’t get better than that!

Recommended Menu at Yamanosato 2nd Branch

The 2nd branch only serves a lunch menu, and here it is:
・Akaushi Hamburg Lunch — 1,300 yen
・Akaushi Steak & Hamburg Lunch — 2,900 yen
・Akaushi Steak Lunch — 2,200 yen
・Akaushi Curry Lunch — 1,300 yen
For any lunch besides the curry, you can add curry sauce for an extra 300 yen.

And here’s the best part — free rice refills, plus
free curry sauce refills if you order the curry.
A second bowl of curry? Don’t mind if I do.

This time I went with the [Akaushi Hamburg Lunch].
The moment I placed my order, the irresistible aroma drifting from the kitchen sent my hunger soaring.

Slice into that plump, juicy hamburg patty and witness
a whole world of meat unfold before your eyes (sorry, words fail me).

The patty is pre-seasoned with salt,
so it’s incredibly tasty even without any sauce.

Soft and tender, with that wild, juicy meatiness
that’ll have you groaning in delight.

Add a touch of extra salt and the savory flavor pops even more,
letting you appreciate the full depth and richness of Akaushi beef.

And here is the [Akaushi Steak Lunch].
It’s seriously generous in size — meat lovers will be in heaven.

Beautifully rare in the center, with a satisfying bite that’s incredibly delicious.
As you eat, the meat gradually cooks a little more,
so you can enjoy a whole spectrum of doneness in one meal.

Oh, and one more thing.
I added the curry sauce too.

And guess what — the curry has big chunks of beef in it too!
Mamma mia!
It’s spicy but easy to eat, a truly luxurious curry.

You’re probably wondering what this little guy is, right?
It’s ohagi — a sweet rice ball coated with red bean paste!

They even include ohagi as a dessert!
It was so good, it satisfied every last craving I had.

To finish, they serve “Ubuyama Spring Water Coffee”.
The moment I lifted the cup, I was completely floored.
The aroma — oh, the aroma!
The bitterness is smooth and clean, making it incredibly easy to drink.

Every dish here is an indulgent, mouthwatering experience.
Honestly, I felt like I could’ve eaten five more!
