📌 What you’ll learn in this article

Welcome to N-orangette

Hello there!
This is Saa-mama, writing for Sarukuma.

Today I’d love to introduce you to a delightful little shop located in
Hagiwara-machi, Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City:
N-orangette — a must-visit for sweets lovers exploring Kumamoto.

You’ll find one parking space right next to the shop,

plus two more spaces (numbers 9 and 10) located just past the shop, marked with white poles. Easy to spot!

Step inside, and you’re greeted by a beautiful sight…

A dazzling lineup of chiffon cakes and Japanese-style daifuku (mochi-wrapped sweets) — so many varieties that choosing becomes part of the fun!
The chiffon cake flavors and varieties change with the seasons, so each visit brings something new to discover — a wonderful reason to come back again and again.

For birthday cakes, you can choose your favorite chiffon cake flavor as the base
and even request specific fruits and decorations — making your own one-of-a-kind custom birthday cake!

Beautiful chocolates are also lined up in the display case,
and baked sweets will be available leading up to White Day in March (Japan’s romantic holiday where men return gifts to women) — definitely something to look forward to!

N-orangette’s Must-Try Menu

The bottom shelf features simple, classic chiffon cakes,
while the middle shelf showcases luxurious chiffon sandwiches filled with fresh fruit and cream.

The top shelf displays signature daifuku — soft mochi (gyuhi) generously wrapped around chiffon cake, sweet Tokachi-region red bean paste, fresh whipped cream, and BIG, juicy whole pieces of fruit. A truly indulgent Japanese-Western fusion treat!

This time, I tried:
• Plain (250 yen) — the No. 1 bestseller
• Raw Chocolate Double Chocolat (460 yen) — a popular favorite
• Riheiguri Chestnut Marron Sandwich (520 yen) — the staff’s recommendation

The bestselling Plain chiffon cake is made with Aso Oguni Jersey milk and fresh, just-laid eggs from the forests of Hitoyoshi — both prized local Kumamoto ingredients.
The egg flavor really shines through with just the right amount of sweetness, and the texture is so wonderfully fluffy that even my child finished every last bite!

Chocolate chiffon × chocolate cream
The Raw Chocolate Double Chocolat is heaven for chocolate lovers — a chiffon sandwich packed with rich, indulgent chocolate goodness!

Riheiguri chestnut chiffon × marron cream
The Riheiguri Chestnut Marron Sandwich features large candied chestnuts (shibukawa-ni) made with Kumamoto-grown Riheiguri chestnuts, layered generously with marron cream — a luxurious chiffon sandwich!

Slice it in half and
you’ll find the inside packed with rich marron cream and that signature pillowy-soft chiffon texture —
plus those candied chestnuts are absolutely divine!

N-orangette is a wonderful spot where you can enjoy a wide variety of chiffon cakes made with locally sourced Kumamoto ingredients.
Perfect as an afternoon treat, a snack for kids, or a special souvenir to take back home from your Kumamoto trip!
