📌 What you’ll learn in this article
A SaruKuma writer visits “Ouan” in Ikutomi, Koshi City, and shares a firsthand report. Price range: from 200 yen. We’ve also rounded up family-friendly tips, access info, and opening hours.

Introducing Ouan

Hello, everyone!
This is Sunny, your SaruKuma writer.

Today I’m taking you to Ikutomi in Koshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture, to a wonderful spot called
《Ouan》.

A classic, time-honored exterior ♡
That nostalgic, old-school atmosphere is irresistible (^^) The shop is in the Hikari-no-Mori area, on the same row as the YMCA,
and diagonally across from “Mon-chan Manju,” which we featured previously.

Mon-chan Manju: Newly Opened in Hikari-no-Mori! One Bite and You’ll Be Hooked (Koshi City, Ikutomi)

There’s parking for a few cars right in front of the shop, but it was already full!
Even on weekdays, the lot fills up fast at lunchtime, so plan accordingly.
Inside, there’s counter seating and
about four tables (the shop was so packed I couldn’t snap a photo). At the two-seat counter in the back, right next to mom and dad,
there’s a little simple bed where babies can nap
or where small kids can sit comfortably.

Just a heads-up — there are no rails, so be careful if your little one rolls around or is super active!

Menu — Udon & Soba

You can choose either udon or soba.
Everything is reasonably priced and tempting (^^)

Menu — Donburi (Rice Bowls)

Now for the rice dishes (^^)
The “Set” combo gets you a full-size udon or soba paired with a full-size donburi.

Both are regular portions.
Honestly, this is a steal!
An extra 200 yen and you get to enjoy both (^^)

The “Mini-Mini” combo also pairs udon or soba with a donburi,
but both are mini (about half-size).
Want to try both but worried about finishing? This is the one!

The “Mini” is just the mini-size donburi.
Perfect for the kids ♪

Donburi rice bowls are also available for takeout.

By the way, here’s the difference between katsudon and katsutoji-don.

It comes down to whether or not there’s egg on top (^^)The pork used in the cutlets is a premium brand called Tenkeibiton (天恵美豚).

Ouan’s Must-Try Menu Item

Even though Ouan is technically an udon shop,
there’s one dish that almost everyone orders!

When I visited, more than 80% of the customers were eating it ♪

And here it is ↓↓ Ta-da! ☆

This time, I went with the
Katsutoji-don — 1,050 yen.

And honestly — it was incredible! ♡

Wow — just look at it.

The egg is so silky and runny!
The dashi broth — distinctly the work of a real udon shop — soaks through every bite. Even just the egg alone is amazing ♪

Even though the cutlet is sandwiched between egg and rice…

The tonkatsu is still crispy!
And the meat is unbelievably tender ♡

How?! How does it stay this good? (゚Д゚)
It’s so delicious it almost doesn’t make sense lol

An udon shop’s killer katsutoji-don!
Seriously — you have to try it (^^)

And of course, the udon and soba are wonderful too ♪
