Welcome to Spice & Cafe nico

Hello, traveler!
This is Binako, your friendly sarukuma writer, ready to take you on a delicious adventure.

Today I’m thrilled to introduce you to a charming little gem located in Sanju-machi, Uto City, Kumamoto Prefecture:
“Spice & Cafe nico”.

You’ll spot the cafe instantly thanks to its adorable red roof.

Convenient parking is available right next to the shop, so feel free to drive in.

The bright blue wall surrounding the cafe is decorated with spoons, faucets, measuring spoons, and other kitchen tools.
It’s a creative, stylish piece of art that completely caught my eye.

Inside, you’ll find both table seating and counter seating, making it perfect whether you’re with family or enjoying a solo lunch.

You’ll notice plenty of regulars chatting warmly with the staff — sharing stories, getting advice, and catching up on daily life.
It truly feels like a second home with a cozy, welcoming atmosphere.

Up a small step, there are two sofa seats — perfect if you’re visiting with little ones.

They also have kids’ chairs available.

Near the register, you’ll find eco-friendly grass straws developed by local university students.
It’s wonderful to see such a sustainable initiative in action!

Right above the grass straws, you’ll spot jams and marmalades from Shokutaku mano for sale as well.

Must-Try Menu Items at Spice & Cafe nico

Here’s a peek at the menu:
– Higo Veggie Curry: 980 yen
– Tender Chicken & Egg Curry: 980 yen
– Forbidden Pork Vindaloo: 1,380 yen
– Higo Veggie & Keema Combo: 1,180 yen
And much more — plus they offer a free spice level upgrade if you like it hot!

The Kids’ Curry (600 yen) is reasonably priced, so you can enjoy authentic curry alongside your little ones.

Here are the toppings (100 yen each).
The tandoori chicken is made with rice flour, so guests with a wheat allergy can order it too.

This is the Higo Veggie Curry I ordered.
The vibrant carrots on top of the rice and the surrounding green vegetables make it absolutely beautiful.

And then comes the curry — generously brimming over the bowl.
It’s loaded with veggies, so you’re in for a hearty, satisfying meal.
I did go ahead and crank up the spice level, of course!

Time to pour it on with gusto!

The combination of bold spices and an array of vegetables with different textures is simply outstanding.

The cashew nuts add a crunchy accent, and their subtle nutty sweetness blends beautifully with the savory curry.

And here is the Tender Chicken & Egg Curry.
The rice is crowned with a soft, runny egg that looks irresistibly charming.

No matter how many times you see it, this luxurious curry overflowing with rich sauce is just stunning.
You’ll want to drink it straight from the bowl — I can’t be the only one!

Pour it on with the same enthusiasm.
(Pro tip: scoop the toppings out first!)No matter how many times I say “this looks delicious,” it still doesn’t do it justice. This is a level of spicy curry you simply cannot recreate at home.
Even the aroma rising through your nose is delicious, and it makes the rice disappear faster than you’d believe.

The egg adds a creamy, mellow touch,
creating an irresistible spicy-meets-mild combination that wins you over instantly.

Many people might wonder how to tackle the chicken drumstick — but rest assured, this is no ordinary chicken.
It’s the legendary fall-off-the-bone tender chicken.

With just chopsticks, the meat slides cleanly off the bone — no struggle at all.
It’s so unbelievably tender, it actually surprised me.
You won’t feel a hint of difficulty eating it — in fact, it’s incredibly easy.

Truly revolutionary tender chicken!

nico also offers takeout, so be sure to drop by and savor their spicy, hearty, and lovingly crafted curry yourself!
