Good Luck Food Truck (Kumamoto): The Potato Salad That Looks Like Ice Cream!
2024.08.07

A SaruKuma writer visits “Good Luck,” a food truck roaming all across Kumamoto Prefecture. Prices start from ¥400. We’ve also rounded up family-friendly tips, access info, and opening hours.
Introducing Good Luck
Hello travelers! I’m Aikero, a writer for [SaruKuma].
Today I’m introducing a food truck called [Good Luck].
The eye-catching red-and-black contrast on this food truck is hard to miss.
You might have spotted it cruising around Kumamoto! ♪
At first glance, the tapestry makes you think it’s an ice cream shop, right?
But it’s actually potato salad!
(Look closely and you’ll see two little potatoes on the sign.)
“I mean… potato salad is just potato salad, isn’t it?”
I confess — I was one of the people who thought exactly that! (>_<)
So whether you’re thinking “What do you mean it’s not just regular potato salad?!” or you’re already a die-hard potato salad fan,
let me share why this food truck is so special!
Here’s the potato salad lineup!
・Original
・Garlic Bacon
・Refreshing Plum & Tuna ★ Most Popular
And here’s the full menu!
・Gelato Potato Salad — ¥400
・Potato Salad Sandwich — ¥500
・Potato Salad Pack (3 flavors of your choice) — ¥700
・Potato Salad Croquette — ¥300
・Pork Skirt Steak Bowl — ¥900
Potato salad, potato salad… and then suddenly a pork skirt steak bowl!
Don’t worry — it still has potato salad in it (^○^)
Good Luck’s Recommended Menu
Of course, this is the one to try first!
Even up close, it really does look like ice cream — so adorable (●^o^●)
I went with the Original flavor in the Gelato Potato Salad style.
Seriously, it looks exactly like ice cream.
And when you take a bite, it’s incredibly moist and silky-smooth!
The word “gelato” really does fit perfectly.
You can taste the rich potato flavor, with that comforting, fluffy texture coming through too.
“Sure, the flavor is great, but it’s just sitting on top of the cone, right?”
I confess — I was one of those people too (>_<) (again!)
The cone is fully packed with potato salad inside!!
Sorry for doubting you (´・_・`)
Here’s the Potato Salad Pack with one of each flavor.
From left to right: Garlic Bacon, Original, and Plum & Tuna.
The Garlic Bacon will have you craving a drink!
It’s the perfect pairing for a glass of sake or beer.
The #1 most popular Plum & Tuna has a lovely soft pink color, too.
The gentle tartness of the Japanese plum (umeboshi) cuts through the sweetness of the potato — so refreshing!
Even with the bold plum and potato flavors, the tuna still shines through. It’s just too good!
Next time I order a Potato Salad Pack, I’m going all-in on Plum & Tuna × 3!
Honestly, buying potato salad from a food truck wasn’t something I’d ever considered before.
But once you try the potato salad from Good Luck, you’ll be hooked.
If you spot the bright red food truck during your travels in Kumamoto, definitely give it a try (●^o^●)
