Introducing Café le ciel

Hello everyone!
It’s Binako, a SaruKuma writer who recently snagged a super-realistic rhinoceros beetle toy!

This time, I’d like to introduce
Shiroyama-Otomo, Nishi Ward, Kumamoto City‘s charming little spot,
“Café le ciel”.

This brand-new galette and coffee café opened its doors back in April this year.

Parking is conveniently located right in front of the shop.

You can also park behind the shop if the front lot is full.

Visiting with a stroller? The back entrance is your best bet — no gravel and no steps, so it’s an easy roll-in for parents with little ones! ♪

Inside, you’ll find five cozy table seats…

…plus three counter seats.
It’s the kind of welcoming spot where solo travelers can pop in for a quick break without feeling out of place.

Tucked in the back, you’ll find handmade crafts and locally grown vegetables for sale — a lovely little discovery for souvenir hunters.

And — wait for it — my absolute favorite phrase appears:
“Free to take home!” corner.

Tableware, plush toys, and other treasures sat there waiting for new homes.

You’ll order and pay at this counter first.
The rich, toasty aroma of galettes cooking nearby is pure foodie heaven — talk about a tease!

Look to the left of the order counter and you’ll spot a true gem:
a coffee tasting corner.

You can sample several different varieties of coffee right there.
What a lovely, indulgent moment to enjoy!

This time, I went with
· the Smoked Salmon & Potato Salad galette
as part of my set.

A dream plate piled high with all my favorites!

The chewy buckwheat crepe is wonderfully nutty and just lightly salted —
perfectly balanced by the fresh, refreshing salad on top.
Once I started, I just couldn’t stop…

And those crispy edges? Absolutely glorious.

The melt-in-your-mouth umami of the smoked salmon is the perfect match.
I was so happy I savored every single bite.

For a drink, I went with the Yogo Apricot.

Thick, creamy, and silky — almost like a drinkable dessert.

It’s the kind of indulgent drink that doubles as a sweet treat. So worth it!

Once you’ve finished, simply return your tray to the return counter — a quiet “thank you for the meal” gesture, in true Japanese style.

A wonderful atmosphere paired with delicious galettes — what more could you ask for?
