About Yoshidaya Manju

Hello, this is Suno, a writer for Sarukuma!

Today I’m taking you to Minami-shinmachi in Amakusa City to visit
Yoshidaya Manju.Just a 3-minute walk from Hondo Bus Center, you’ll find Yoshidaya Manju, a traditional Japanese sweets shop that’s been a beloved part of the neighborhood for years. The Amakusa City Complex “Cocoras” and Minatomachi Children’s Park are both nearby β€” perfect for combining your visit with a little local sightseeing! β™ͺ

The shop sits along a fairly busy road, so please skip the storefront and head to the parking lot in the back instead.
Right behind the shop, across from Minami-shinmachi Pharmacy, there’s space for about 5 cars.
Now let’s dive into all the amazing wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets) on offer!

Yoshidaya Manju Recommended Menu

The display case is lined with rows and rows of beautiful manju β€” they all look mouthwatering! β™ͺ

Many items sell out by afternoon, so I’d highly recommend stopping by earlier in the day!
Cream Daifuku β€” Β₯90

Rikyu Manju β€” Β₯90

Kusa Mochi (mugwort rice cake) β€” Β₯90.

That’s right β€” almost everything here costs less than a coin! Incredible value for handmade Japanese sweets. While I was busy deciding what to buy, customers kept streaming in nonstop!

Lots of locals walk over from nearby β€” clearly a neighborhood favorite. Most regulars were buying joyo manju and skewered dango by the dozen.

These would make absolutely perfect souvenirs or gifts to bring home!
Hanabira Mochi (flower petal mochi) β€” Β₯90

Goma Dango (sesame dumpling) β€” Β₯90

Chocolate Daifuku β€” Β₯90

This unbeatable price point is surely one of the secrets behind the shop’s enduring popularity β™ͺ
And the case next to it? Surprise!

They also sell nikuman (steamed pork buns) and anman (sweet red bean buns)!

It’s pretty unusual to find nikuman at a traditional manju shop (and the anman here is a charming pink color).
I had to try Yoshidaya Manju’s famous nikuman β€” a hidden gem known to those in the know around Amakusa!

Unlike convenience-store versions, you can really taste the handmade quality. The dough is soft, fluffy, and beautifully moist β™ͺ
And the size is just right β€” perfect for a little snack on the go.I couldn’t decide what to get, so I ended up buying way more than planned β™ͺ

My personal pick? The Cheese Daifuku!

The smooth, silky mochi skin paired with rich cream cheese inside is seriously addictive β€” absolutely delicious.
The sakura mochi has perfectly balanced sweetness in its bean paste β€” I devoured it in seconds! β™ͺ

Spring really is the season for Japanese sweets! Why not pair a warm cup of tea with some treats from Yoshidaya Manju on your next Amakusa adventure?
