Welcome to Tebaya Hokubu Branch

Hello there! It’s Asukarando, writer for [SaruKuma], here to bring you another great spot in Kumamoto.

Today’s feature is the popular izakaya located in Kanokogi, Kita Ward, Kumamoto City:
Tebaya Hokubu Branch (手羽家 北部店).

Previously, I introduced Tebaya Hokubu Branch through their delicious takeout chicken wings, but this time I finally got to dine inside the restaurant — so let me share the full experience with you! (^-^)v

Tebaya Hokubu Branch — Recommended Menu Highlights

First things first — since we’re at Tebaya (literally “House of Chicken Wings”)

it has to be the chicken wings, of course! (^3^)/

Beautifully arranged on a plate — completely different presentation from the takeout version!

The skin is grilled to a perfect crisp, and the savory salt flavor that lingers on your fingers is absolutely irresistible!

For first-time visitors, there’s a helpful guide on how to enjoy the wings printed on the back of the chopstick sleeve! (*^.^*)

Almost forgot — the otoshi (small appetizer dish typically served at Japanese izakayas) was a homemade treat by the staff and absolutely delicious!

When you’re at an izakaya, yakitori is a must, right?
The pork belly skewers were glazed in a sweet-savory tare sauce that immediately had me craving white rice — and pairing it with alcohol was pure heaven! (>.<)y-~

The freshly made potato chips were a huge hit with the kids! (^-^)v
Still glistening from the fryer with that perfect crisp — we ended up ordering them twice! (>.<)y-~

The fried pork trotters had a crisp golden exterior and meltingly tender, juicy meat inside — so good you’ll want to gnaw right down to the bone! (^^)

We also treated ourselves to basashi (horse sashimi — a famous Kumamoto specialty)! (^-^)v

For such beautifully marbled meat at this generous portion size, the price was really reasonable.

Seriously, this basashi was incredible!!!

And here it is!

Totally Instagrammable! (^-^)v

When we ordered the fried shrimp, we never expected such a stylish presentation — the kids actually applauded! (*^.^*)
The shrimp was so big and meaty, just one piece was completely satisfying! (^-^)v

These were just our family’s picks, but there are so many other tempting items on the menu!
Whether you’re dining solo, out with friends, with family, or bringing the kids along, Tebaya Hokubu Branch is an izakaya that’s sure to satisfy everyone. (*^.^*)

As a sweet bonus, the kids were given jelly treats as a parting gift — they were absolutely thrilled!

This particular evening happened to be the Friday all-you-can-drink for 680 yen per hour event — and yes, we may have indulged a little too much! (>.<)y-~
