Kashi Kobo Kugelhopf: A Charming Hidden Cake Shop with Heartwarming Sweets in Suizenji, Kumamoto
2020.11.25

A SaruKuma writer visits “Kashi Kobo Kugelhopf,” a cozy cake shop tucked away in Suizenji, Chuo-ku, Kumamoto City. Price range: from 1,900 yen. Includes family-friendly tips, access information, and opening hours.
About the Shop
Hello, fellow travelers!
I’m Binako, a writer for SaruKuma — known since childhood for being a bit too energetic and a little too loud (my family says I’m one step away from becoming a wild child)!
Today I’m excited to introduce you to Kashi Kobo Kugelhopf, a delightful cake shop located in Suizenji, Chuo-ku, Kumamoto City.
The shop sits just one street back from the main road, so using GPS navigation makes it easy to find. ^^
Parking is available right in front of the shop
I know what you’re thinking — lol
“That photo is way too close-up!” lol
Some neighborhood kids were playing badminton nearby, so I zoomed in tight to avoid getting in their way.

The first thing that greeted me inside was
the Robo-can — 1,900 yen
Filled with pound cake and cookies inside!

The shop also boasts an impressive variety of baked goods! ^^

Inside, you’ll find table seating where you can enjoy a small café experience. ^^
It’s such a treat to find a cake shop where you can also sit down and have a coffee!

They even have a café-style cake set menu! With kids’ drinks available, it’s a great spot for families. ^^

Other tempting options include:
Soft Serve Ice Cream — 360 yen
Shake — Small 400 yen / Large 500 yen
It’s not just about the cakes — you can also enjoy drinks and soft serve, making this a wonderful little café experience! ♪
Recommended Menu Items
And now, the moment of truth — the cakes I came for!
Each one looked so delicious that I couldn’t decide, but the staff kindly walked me through every option.
Even the owner-pâtissier joined in the conversation
creating such a warm, welcoming atmosphere
that you can’t help but want to linger.
Ah, that’s why they have a café space!
Now I totally get why guests want to stay.

Size 3 Tart — 1,200 yen
This is honestly the perfect size for me. I was so impressed I had to snap a photo. I’m sure many people are looking for exactly this size!

Blueberry Cheesecake — 450 yen
This simply looks irresistible. The blueberries practically sparkle on top — no wonder it’s their #1 best-seller!

Pomme — 420 yen
A charming apple cake made with Fuji apples. Both the shape and the name are adorable. “Pomme”… it just rolls off the tongue, doesn’t it?

This time, I went with the recommendation: the Strawberry Shortcake — 450 yen, topped with delicious Japanese-grown strawberries!
Make way for these glistening strawberries!

Strawberry season has arrived, so you can really sink your teeth into these juicy beauties. It’s an exciting time of year for kids too!

Plump, sweet, and absolutely delicious…
It almost makes me feel like winter is coming… Christmas is on its way…
A nostalgic, soothing flavor that warms the soul.

The lightly sweetened whipped cream pairs perfectly with the fluffy sponge, and the sweet-tart strawberries elevate everything to a whole new level.
This is what a true strawberry shortcake should taste like!
It’s a classic for a reason — pure, unbeatable deliciousness. I could eat this forever.
Kugelhopf is also famous for their cream puffs
which were actually my original target — but they had already sold out!
I’m definitely planning to come back and try them next time! (*´Д`)
Be sure to stop by and treat yourself to these wonderful sweets!
