About the Cafe

Hello, travelers!

My shoulder blades have been aching lately—
I’m Binako, a writer for Sarukuma!
I could really use a good shoulder stretch right about now~

Today, I’m excited to introduce a charming spot located in
Kozutsufukae, Reihoku Town, Amakusa District, Kumamoto Prefecture:
“Umi no Mieru Cafe Hikari” (The Ocean-View Cafe Hikari).

“The Ocean-View…”
Just the name alone sounds dreamy, doesn’t it?

And of course, even the parking lot
comes with a stunning ocean view!

Inside the cafe, you’ll find an array of items for sale, including souvenirs—so you can grab gifts and enjoy a meal all in one stop!

Among the goodies that caught my eye:
Handmade Cookies — 300 yen
Salt Pie made with Amakusa Sea Salt — 300 yen
Both sounded absolutely irresistible! (*´Д`)

And toward the back, you’ll find
homemade cakes for sale, too!
The prices are reasonable, and I noticed several customers stopping by just to pick up a cake to take home ♪

Salt Doughnuts — 120 yen
Kinako (Roasted Soybean Flour) & Brown Sugar Doughnuts — 140 yen
If you reserve in advance, the staff will even prepare them freshly fried just for you!

The cafe space inside is welcoming and family-friendly, with kids’ chairs and cozy sofa seating—perfect for visitors traveling with little ones. ^^

The counter seats offer a sweeping panoramic view of the ocean!
Sipping coffee with such an open, breathtaking view…
It’s truly the most luxurious cafe experience you could ask for! (*´Д`)

Recommended Menu Items

The menu also features a variety of lunch options! ^^

Daily Lunch Special — 750 yen
Hamburg Steak Doria (Baked Rice Casserole) — 770 yen
There are also two different Kids’ Meals available,
so little ones can pick whichever suits their taste ♪

This time, I treated myself to the
Dolphin Sundae — 390 yen
It was as adorable as it sounds!

You can choose your sauce, so I went with matcha (green tea) sauce ( *´艸`)

The ice cream is rich, dense, and pleasantly firm—
seriously satisfying with every spoonful ♪
That delightful crunchy-yet-creamy texture is absolutely irresistible!

The little dolphin-shaped cookie perched on top
is also handmade and incredibly tasty.
It’s not too sweet and pairs perfectly with the ice cream! ( *´艸`)

Whether you’re stopping by for lunch or dessert,
this is one cafe you absolutely have to visit during your trip to Amakusa!
