Today, I’m excited to introduce you to “Amakusa Kaimaru Kumamoto Castle Branch”, a fantastic seafood spot located in Ninomaru, Chuo-ku, Kumamoto City.

For parking, please use the coin parking at Kumamoto Castle Josaien — it’s just a short walk away and very convenient for tourists exploring the castle area!

While they also have a sit-down restaurant, today I came specifically for their famous takeaway item — the legendary sea urchin croquettes!

Just the name alone is mouth-watering…

The shop offers three different types of croquettes lined up at the counter.

Classic Potato Croquette — 260 yen

Guaranteed to be delicious —
Amakusa Local Octopus Rice Croquette — 324 yen

Loaded with sea urchin —
Premium Sea Urchin (Uni) Croquette — 390 yen

They also offer a wide variety of sea urchin and seafood products such as:

So incredibly delicious!!!

The melt-in-your-mouth uni cream paired with the crispy, golden coating is absolute perfection!
The white sauce surrounding it is also exquisite —
you simply cannot visit Kumamoto without trying this!

Even before taking a bite, the rich aroma of sea urchin wafts up — I could honestly just sit and inhale that scent forever (haha)!

And the fact that such a luxurious croquette costs less than 500 yen? That’s pure happiness in every bite.
