Welcome to Everest Kitchen
Hello travelers! It’s Suno from Sarukuma.
Today I’m taking you to a wonderful hidden gem in Jonan-machi, Minami Ward, Kumamoto City —
Everest Kitchen, an authentic Nepalese restaurant that’s quickly becoming a local favorite.
Heading south on National Route 266 from central Kumamoto toward Matsubase, you’ll spot the bright orange “Everest Kitchen” sign on your right.
You’ll also see the Super Store Dynobu on your left — a handy landmark.
The parking lot is spacious and easy to navigate — great news if you’re driving.
Step inside, and you’ll find around seven four-person tables in the main dining area.
Beyond a partition, there are three more six-person tables, perfect for larger groups.
There are also two traditional Japanese-style raised tatami seating areas (“koagari”) with cushioned joint mats laid out — a wonderful cultural touch.
Almost every family with kids requested these comfortable floor-style seats!
A baby bouncer is also available, so even families with infants can dine with ease.
They have three low-style children’s chairs and two high chairs ready to go.
There are stuffed animals, building blocks, and baby mobiles to keep little ones entertained while you wait for your food to arrive — a thoughtful touch for traveling families.
A Western-style toilet is located at the back of the restaurant — perfect for international visitors.
A water dispenser is set up at the counter beside the register, so help yourself to as much water as you’d like.
Cutlery and oshibori (refreshing wet hand towels) are also placed here for self-service.
From left to right: their famous bean soup (three servings), iced coffee, and oolong tea — all complimentary!
The friendly staff even invite takeout customers to help themselves while they wait — a wonderful welcoming gesture.
That bright orange bean soup deserves a special mention.
At first glance, you might think, “What does this taste like? Is it like carrot juice?” But once you take a sip, you’ll be amazed by its rich flavor and natural sweetness from the beans!
My 2-year-old daughter happily gulped it down and demanded refills.
She finished two and a half cups all by herself!
Personally, I love drinking it piping hot ♪
Everest Kitchen Menu Highlights
・Choice Set ¥1,408 (tax incl.)
Pick your favorite from 4 types of naan, 5 types of curry, and 5 types of drinks — a great way to customize your meal!
・Everest Set ¥1,188 (tax incl.)
These two are the chef’s recommendations at Everest Kitchen!
・Turmeric Rice Set ¥1,298 (tax incl.)
・Nepali Momo Set ¥1,155 (tax incl.)
Momo are traditional Nepali-style dumplings — a must-try if you’ve never had them!
The variety of curries and naan is impressive!
From the ever-popular butter chicken curry to the intriguing Non-Veg Roomali Roll, just browsing the menu gets your taste buds excited ♪
Curious about the Roomali Roll, I did a little research — it’s a thin Indian flatbread called “roti” wrapped around vegetables and meat.
So the Non-Veg Roomali Roll likely contains only meat fillings — perfect for protein lovers.
・Sweet Red Bean & Cheese Naan ¥550
Now this one I had to know more about — sweet meets savory!
They also have rice sets if you’re not in the mood for naan.
Samosas, seekh kebabs, pakoras… authentic South Asian dishes you don’t see every day in Japan!
If you’re unsure about anything, just ask the friendly staff — they’ll happily explain.
They also offer a kids’ menu for children up to 6th grade ♪
・Kids’ Naan Set ¥500
・Kids’ Udon Set ¥500
・Kids’ Rice Set ¥500
・Special Kids’ Set ¥680

It even comes with a mango lassi — a true highlight!
They even offer pasta — an unexpected treat at a curry house!
Everest Kitchen’s Must-Try Dishes
Here it is! The Everest Set!
Let’s start with the salad plate.
That fiery-looking chicken tikka? Surprise!
Even my 2-year-old daughter happily gobbled it up!
She ate both pieces all by herself!
The drumstick-like “tulip” shape made it easy for little hands to grip.
And that orange dressing on the salad? Absolutely addictive!
It’s the iconic dressing you’ll find at virtually every Indian/Nepali curry restaurant — and for good reason.
You can buy a bottle at the register for ¥450 (tax excl.) per bottle to take home as a souvenir.
And then there’s the wonderfully chewy, oversized naan!
It’s hard to convey just how huge it is from the photo alone…
…so take a look at this!
It’s so big it covers an adult man’s entire face!
The naan is delicious on its own, and absolutely heavenly when dipped into the curry ♪
Best of all: naan and rice refills are FREE! I went for a half-size naan refill.
The luxury of biting into freshly baked naan is something special!
The Everest Set comes with two curries: vegetable curry and chicken curry.
Today’s vegetable curry was generously packed with eggplant ♪
The takeout menu is also extensive — I saw three groups waiting to pick up their orders during my visit.
Since it was a Saturday, about 80% of the customers dining in were families with children!
After paying, don’t throw away your receipt!
Collect 10 receipts and you’ll get a 500 yen discount on your next visit ♪
Just as I was full and heading to the register, I almost forgot — the after-meal lassi!
So I shared a cheers with the staff right at the counter!
Face-sized naan, an incredible variety of curries and à la carte dishes, plenty of seating, and tatami areas where families can truly relax!
With its kind Nepalese staff and delicious curry sets, Everest Kitchen is the perfect destination for a family lunch or dinner adventure in Kumamoto.
