A Sarukuma writer visits “Matsuya no Pan,” a beloved bakery in Suizenji, Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City. Price range: from 180 yen. We’ve also summarized family-friendly tips, access, and opening hours.

Hello, fellow travelers!

This is Binako,
your Sarukuma writer reporting in!

Today I’m introducing a charming little bakery located in
Suizenji, Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City:
“Matsuya no Pan”.

The shop sits right along the road, so be careful not to walk past it!

There’s one parking space available right next to the shop β€” super convenient!

Inside, the shelves are lined with freshly baked bread.
Every loaf and pastry is a long-time local favorite β€” and the prices are wonderfully wallet-friendly!

Shokupan (Japanese milk bread), 1 loaf β€” 180 yen
Melon Pan, Sweet Bean & Cheese
Camembert, Cinnamon
Blueberry, Chunky Peanut β€” 120 yen
Cheese Zanmai, Loaded Raisin β€” 150 yen
Cookies (Raisin, Lemon, Peanut) β€” 60 yen

The full bread menu is posted right next to the display β™ͺ

That shokupan price is divine.

Heads up: the shokupan requires advance reservation!
(Order by 11:00 a.m.)

Gift boxes are also available β€” perfect for souvenirs!
Boxes range from 50 to 100 yen β™ͺ

Recommended Menu

This time I picked up:
Choco Cornet β€” 120 yen
Cheese Zanmai β€” 150 yen

Cheese…Zanmai
(meaning “cheese indulgence”) β€” what a name!
No cheese lover could possibly resist!

Warm it up and the fluffy bread embraces gooey, melted cheese β€” absolutely incredible.
And because it uses more than one type of cheese, the depth of flavor is something else entirely.

I highly recommend heating it before eating.
It’s pure cheese luxury.

Next up: the Choco Cornet.
A Japanese bakery classic β€” and a personal favorite of mine!

Of course, I had to try one myself β€”
though my chocolate-loving son ended up snatching most of it!
Chocolate and bread are simply meant to be together.
It’s seriously delicious.

The rich, deep cocoa flavor is just perfect.

The shop staff were incredibly warm and friendly, happy to chat with customers β™ͺ
The atmosphere is calm and relaxing, so you can take your time choosing your bread.
