πŸ“Œ What You’ll Discover in This Article
A SaruKuma writer’s first-hand visit to “Uoya Daichan,” a fantastic fish shop in Minami-Takae, Minami Ward, Kumamoto City. Price guide: from 1,000 yen. Includes family-friendly tips, access information, and business hours.

Hello, fellow travelers and seafood lovers! 😊
This is Yuzu 🌻, writer for SaruKuma!

Today, I’m thrilled to introduce you to
Uoya Daichan,
a wonderful fish shop located in Minami-Takae, Minami Ward, Kumamoto City.

If you’ve been searching for an authentic Japanese fish market with incredibly fresh seafood, this is a must-visit spot!

To get there, take Route 3 heading toward Amakusa,
turn onto the old Route 3, and you’ll find the shop on your right-hand side πŸ˜€

It’s right next to a Buddhist altar shop, so it’s easy to spot πŸ‘

Parking is available right in front of the shop πŸš—

This place is so good, it’ll have you thinking,
“I want to eat Daichan’s fish every single day!” 😍

Now, let’s head inside! GO! GO!!!!

Hand sanitizer is provided at the entrance for your safety.

Since fish prices fluctuate daily based on the catch, I’ve blurred the prices in the photos this time.

But don’t worry! Every item is priced very fairly ⭐︎
In fact, the prices are incredibly reasonable!

Take a look at the atmosphere inside! πŸ˜†

As you can see, the variety here is impressive πŸ˜†

While many fish counters today are tucked inside supermarkets,
this is a specialty fish shop run by true seafood experts 🀩

Daichan will prepare your fish however you’d like!

I’ll admit, I had to look up “matsuba-biraki” (pine-needle cut) and “tsubo-nuki” (gut removal through the gills) myself! πŸ’¦

They’ll even prepare fish you bring in yourself!
This is a fantastic service to remember πŸ‘πŸ»

So if you’ve ever wondered, “What do I do with all this fish I caught?”
come straight to Daichan!

Even households where the husband keeps fishing without preparing the catch (a common cause of marital squabbles!) can avoid arguments here πŸ‘

I’m pretty sure my friend’s family falls into this category πŸ’¦

You can place all kinds of custom orders 🐟

Sashimi Platters
Made to your specifications, starting from 1,000 yen per person.

Celebration Sea Bream (Iwaidai)
Perfect for Japanese milestone celebrations like Oshichiya (7th day after birth), Okuizome (first food ceremony), 100-day celebrations, and Shichi-Go-San!

Yome-Buri (Bride’s Yellowtail)
A traditional Kyushu custom! πŸ˜€
And many more β€” they’ll tailor everything to your needs!

I personally placed an order for a BBQ once πŸ˜€

The staff gave me thoughtful advice and kindly answered all my questions 😁
(Sadly, the BBQ was canceled at the last minute, so I couldn’t enjoy it β€” but I’ll definitely order again next time!)

How about fugu sashimi (pufferfish sashimi) at home?

Now, let’s take a look at the fish! 😍

Just stunning β€” you can practically feel the freshness through the photos πŸ˜†

Ask the staff and they’ll happily share cooking tips and prepare the fish for you πŸ˜€

Here’s the cut fish section. On this particular day, they had
Miyabi sea bream, hairtail (tachiuo), and pomfret (managatsuo) 🀩

That Miyabi sea bream was the most delicious sea bream I’ve ever tasted!

I bought some last time and grilled it with salt β€” and I was absolutely blown away! 🀩

The richness and oil content were on a completely different level!

Not the slightest bit dry, and the leftovers I ate the next day were just as delicious!

And now, the sashimi corner!

Look at this lineup!

I’m not exaggerating β€” the sashimi here glitters like jewels πŸ’Ž

The o-toro (fatty tuna) is so beautiful, words fail me πŸ˜†

Just-Fry-It Section

These items come pre-breaded β€” all you have to do is fry them at home πŸ‘
A real lifesaver for busy travelers and families πŸ˜€

These aren’t just ordinary fried foods!

The attention to detail is next-level!

And yes β€” they can be frozen 😊

I once bought some aji-fry (fried horse mackerel), froze it, and cooked it later β€”
and it was unbelievably delicious!

A hundred times better than coating your own fish! 😍
My whole family raved about it!

My husband, who normally skips rice at dinner,
actually said, “This goes perfectly with rice! It’s an aji-fry teishoku (set meal)!” and dug in πŸ˜†

They also have ready-made side dishes (osozai)! πŸ˜€
I haven’t tried them yet, but I’ll definitely be back for them soon πŸ˜†

Here’s the business hours and announcement board πŸ˜€

Follow them on Instagram to see the day’s sashimi selection 🌟
The photos are so tempting, you’ll want to head over right away! 😍

Be sure to give them a follow!

Recommended Menu Item

This time, I picked up

As you can see β€”
the Sashimi Platter 😍

This is a limited-quantity item. I saw it on Instagram, couldn’t resist, called ahead to reserve it, and went to pick it up πŸ₯°

Originally I had planned hayashi rice (Japanese-style hashed beef rice) for dinner that day,
but I switched to a menu that would pair with sashimi instead 😊
That’s how good it was 🌟

I plated it up at home β€” sorry, my photo doesn’t quite do it justice! πŸ’¦

A trio of haiwo (mahi-mahi), tuna, and kuruma prawn β€”
all fresh, all incredible!

So plump and bouncy β€” “So this is what fish is really supposed to taste like!” the whole family agreed 😍

Last time, I also tried the seared barracuda (kamasu) sashimi β€” and that flavor is still unforgettable! 😍

I got a little carried away this time β€” sorry for going on so long! πŸ’¦

You’re guaranteed to be impressed!
Even kids who don’t usually like fish might just become converts!
Definitely give it a try πŸ˜†
