About the Shop

Hello, travelers!

It’s getting chilly here in Kumamoto, and hanging laundry outside has become a real chore.
This is Binako, your Sarukuma writer!

Today I’m excited to introduce a charming spot located in
Takaba, Koshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture:
“Patisserie Volonté”.

Tucked inside the grounds of Anbie in Koshi City,
this is a specialty shop dedicated entirely to tarts and quiches!

The cheerful orange color, my personal favorite, makes the storefront easy to spot.

There’s parking right in front of the shop,
and the spacious lot means you can pull in with plenty of room to spare — perfect for visitors driving in from afar.

Step inside and you’ll be greeted by a lovely Christmas atmosphere — the shop is beautifully decorated and full of seasonal charm.

When I visited, the tarts were still being prepared in the back kitchen,
but even so, customers were streaming in,
many of them buying tarts by the boxful.

This is the locally-loved tart made with strawberries grown right here in Koshi City —
the berries are big, generously piled, and sourced with community pride.

And here we have the savory quiches.

These limited-edition pies sell out fast, so if you’re hunting for one,
plan to arrive early in the day!

They also accept whole-cake reservations,
making this the perfect spot for upcoming celebrations or birthday cakes ♪
Kids absolutely adore tarts, so this is a great family pick.

This time, I treated myself to the
Koshi City Strawberry Tart — 440 yen!

The mountain of glistening strawberries on top is absolutely irresistible.

Now, time to dig in!
Ah, pure indulgence.

The sweet-tart strawberries burst beautifully in your mouth.
The tart shell and whipped cream are delicately sweet — never overpowering —
and the strawberry’s sweetness and tang pair perfectly with the buttery crust,
making every bite a little moment of happiness.

One taste and you can’t help but smile.

With so many varieties of tarts and quiches on offer,
I’m tempted to come back and try them all!
