Welcome to Monvert Nozan
Hello travelers! I’m Kanao, a writer for SaruKuma, here to introduce one of Kumamoto’s hidden gems!

Today’s destination is located in Nagasaki, Minamata City, and it’s called
Monvert Nozan β a true mountain escape for food lovers.

It’s about an 18-minute drive from the Minamata Interchange β a scenic route that takes you deep into the surrounding mountains.
What makes this place truly special is that they raise their own pigs and craft their own ham and sausages right on the property.
With a strong focus on humane, natural breeding environments, the restaurant is nestled right in the heart of the mountains! βͺ

The parking area is wonderfully spacious β perfect if you’re driving in from Kumamoto City or beyond.

Right in front of the restaurant, there’s a charming pool-like installation that makes for a great photo spot (^^)
It’s clear the owner has put thought into making the experience fun for every visitor β these little touches make all the difference! βͺ

And then came our biggest surprise of the day…!
A free-roaming pony was wandering around!
This sweet pony is allowed to roam freely through the mountain grounds, but on this particular day she happened to be hanging out near the entrance β what a delightful coincidence! β‘
Her name is Jun-chan, and she’s a senior pony with the gentlest personality.
Meeting her was such a soothing, heartwarming experience (^β^)

Inside, you’ll find both regular table seating and cozy sofa seats.
We dined in the main restaurant this time, but right next door there’s also an indoor BBQ facility!
Since the BBQ area is fully indoors, you can enjoy it even on rainy days β a great option year-round.
Their charcoal-grilled smoked sausages are absolutely incredible β highly recommended! (^^)

You’re free to choose your own seat when you arrive.
Since my son is still little, we picked the sofa seating.
The sofa was wonderfully deep and roomy β a real lifesaver when traveling with a wiggly toddler (shoes off, of course!).

There are also high chairs suitable for babies β perfect for traveling families!

Children’s tableware is provided too, so kids can comfortably enjoy a meal alongside the adults β«

From the terrace seats, you can soak in the surrounding nature views β pure mountain magic (^^)

Here’s where the nature really comes alive β
There’s a dog run area and a spot to interact with adorable rabbits!

After our meal, we walked down a short slope (about 50 meters)…
And first, we met the goats!
As we approached, several friendly goats came right up to greet us (^β^)
My son was a little shy at first, but they were so calm and adorable.
You can really feel that the animals here live stress-free, happy lives β it makes the whole place feel even more special (^^)

Ta-da! And here are the rabbits inside the rabbit house β‘
So tiny, so round, so unbelievably cute! β‘ The hutch has a double-door entry, but visitors can step right inside.

Take a guess β do you know what these are?
They’re… shiitake mushrooms growing on natural logs! (haha)
For a limited time, they’re offering a shiitake harvesting experience for 600 yen (tax included). Check the official website for details.
It’s a unique experience you won’t easily find elsewhere! (^^)
Recommended Menu at Monvert Nozan

Now let’s dive into the restaurant menu! βͺ
From mains…

…to curry, pizza, and side dishes
And yes, there’s a kids’ menu too! βͺ

For dessert, soft-serve ice cream is on offer.
The menu is so extensive that picking just one dish is a delicious dilemma! (haha)
What did our family choose? Here we go…
Plate & Rauch Set (1,800 yen)
This combo features a round sausage called Saumagen along with a sausage of the day.
The Saumagen is filled with potato and parsley, where the fluffy potato meets the juicy sausage in a heavenly bite β incredibly satisfying! β‘

Herb Steak Set (1,500 yen) was the second pick!
The herbs add a rich, bold flavor while still letting the natural taste of the pork shine through β a delicious balance βͺ
And let’s not forget the potatoes β perfectly crispy and downright addictive! (haha)

Here’s the appetizer that comes with the set.
The pickles have such a wonderfully tangy flavor β it’s the kind of taste you’ll keep wanting more of (^^)

There’s also a consommΓ©-style soup that comes with the set β even my son happily slurped it down!
You can choose between rice or bread on the side.
And the best part? Rice refills are free!
If you find yourself in southern Kumamoto, make sure to swing by Monvert Nozan β it’s an unforgettable mountain dining experience! (^β^)
