Introducing Karaage Kenchan

Hello there!

I just got an eyelash perm, so my mood (and my lashes) are lifted high today!
This is Binako, your SaruKuma writer!

Today I’m excited to introduce you to a wonderful spot located in
Seihoku Ogawa, Ogawa-machi, Uki City, Kumamoto Prefecture:
“Karaage Kenchan”!

This takeaway-only karaage (Japanese fried chicken) shop opened in late October.

What makes Karaage Kenchan extra special is that it’s the very first store launched by the Heart Group—an organization I’ve personally had the pleasure of working with.

There’s parking for one car right in front of the shop, plus additional spaces next door.

Inside, the shop is filled with flowers and heartwarming congratulatory messages celebrating the grand opening.

Here’s what’s on the menu:
Salt Karaage (Shio) — 100g for 215 yen
Soy Sauce Karaage (Shoyu) — 100g for 215 yen
Fried Chicken Wings — 100 yen each
Homemade Spring Rolls — 100 yen each
Supaiko (à la carte) — 300 yen
Karaage Bento — 360 yen
Supaiko Bento — 450 yen
Set Meals — 2,000 to 3,000 yen

Wait… what on earth is “Supaiko”?

SUPAIKOOO!
(Sweet and sour pork)

Turns out “Supaiko” is the Japanese-Chinese term for sweet and sour pork.
Learn something new every day!
And honestly, that supaiko sounds absolutely delicious.

Karaage Kenchan’s Recommended Menu

This time, I tried the
Salt Karaage (Shio) — 100g for 215 yen!

Sold by weight, 100g came with about 4 generously sized pieces.
For only 215 yen, that’s an absolute steal!

Ooh… I really like this!

The texture of the chicken is exactly to my taste.
It’s not greasy at all, light and easy to eat, with
the umami of the chicken concentrated to perfection.
That’s the best way to describe it!

Next up, I tried the
Soy Sauce Karaage (Shoyu) — 100g for 215 yen!!

This version also came with about 4 pieces per 100g.
The rich, deep golden-brown color from the soy sauce really gets your appetite going!

The umami of the chicken hits you with a satisfying punch,
perfectly matched with the savory aroma of the soy sauce. Incredible!

While I waited for my order to be freshly fried,
the friendly chatter of the staff was so warm and cheerful—
the relaxed, family-like atmosphere was genuinely heartwarming.

By the way, they’re also taking orders for Christmas chicken!
Limited to 100 pieces, so be sure to reserve yours quickly!

Be sure to drop by Karaage Kenchan and try it for yourself!
