About the Shop

Hello there!

I’m Binako, a Sarukuma writer who keeps trying home workouts but can never quite stick with them!

Today I’m introducing a hidden gem in Miyoshi, Koshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture:
“Agetaro”, a beloved local fried-food shop.

Everything is fried fresh after you order, so there’s a short wait. The friendly staff even asked, “Would you like to wait inside?” so it seems the container space next to the shop is open for customers to use.

There’s parking for about 3 to 4 cars right in front of the shop β€” super convenient if you’re driving!

Here’s a look at Agetaro’s menu:

Taro Karaage (fried chicken) β€” 230 yen / 100g (2–3 pieces)
Garlic-flavored Karaage β€” 240 yen / 100g
Curry-flavored Karaage β€” 240 yen / 100g
Fried Pork Trotter (Agetonsoku) β€” 400 yen / piece
Sunazuri (chicken gizzards) β€” 400 yen / 4 skewers
Chicken Skin (salt or soy sauce) β€” 400 yen / 4 skewers
Karaage Bento β€” 500 yen (sides only: 400 yen)
Extra-large rice β€” +50 yen

That’s the full lineup!

Just look at that adorable little Agetaro mascot face β€” you can’t help falling in love with it instantly.

Recommended Menu Item

This time I tried the:
Fried Pork Trotter (Agetonsoku) β€” 400 yen

The dipping sauce comes on the side, so you can add as much (or as little) as you like.

Pour on the sauce generously β€” don’t hold back!

The skin is wonderfully crispy, while inside it’s melt-in-your-mouth tender β€”
plump, juicy, and absolutely irresistible (*Β΄Π”ο½€)

The shredded cabbage on the side is delicious too, and there’s a garlic-infused sauce in the back that takes things to a whole new level β€” it’ll have you reaching for more.

Don’t worry about getting your hands messy.
Just dive in with everything you’ve got.
It was seriously, ridiculously good!

Definitely add this place to your Kumamoto food bucket list!
